Sounds like you are pretty pumped up !!! So, I assume that you have definately made your choice of service ??

Read and re-read all of your contract before you raise your hand so that you completely understand what you are committing to. Too many people don't and then spend the next few years whining because they thought they were lied to. If it isn't in writing ... don't count on it happening (be happy when & if it does).

Congrats on your decision !!! Let us know how things turn out !!

Pistol... Your Oh so right...!

My brother wanted ONLY TO Be a 11B... I guess he didnt read or hear it correctly and he became a 11B/11C. So he didnt get what he wanted but still will help him on what he wants to be.

My brother told me to get up and walk out if the job is filled or they wont give it to me. AND i WILL do so if i dont get it in the contract.

Thanks for pointing that out tho.

If the Army is like the Marines, it's Infantry, not Rifleman, etc etc. TOW gunner, machine gunner, rifleman, mortarman, and LAV crewman are all under the "Infantry" heading, and individual MOS aren't guaranteed, just Infantry. One friend of mine managed to be qualified on all but LAV crewman in his 4 years, but he was sort of a renegade and got bounced from platoon to platoon though.

The Marines is like the Army in the job titles that they are such as the 11 series being ground soldier (basically) as the Marines I think also has that but do you also have a add on designation to specify your job such as what you stated?

I love the job I do which is 11B been doing it for 12 years and leaving in a couple months for my third deployment. I can't say you will love it as much as some its all about what your into. Good luck it will be good for your character.

Ya my brother only wanted to be a 11B he wants to get out and become a State Trooper., he called them and they sayed When we Hire we look for This (11B) they told him it was better. I think him being with the 11C it made him upset. he can still be a Trooper its just messed up that the recruiter did that. So i will watch out and leave if i dont get it on paper what i desire.
Thanks agian.

Its not that the recruiter did anything wrong, he got the 11 "x" field. Then within the 11 field the Army will place him where they need him to be in the "x" category. Same thing with the Marines. I joined to be in the 0800 field. So they could have made me an Artillery Gunner 0811, Artillery Fire Direction Control man 0844, Artillery Scout Observer 0861, or a Counter Battery Radar 0847. I got lucky and got the 0844 field in which I wanted but my contract stated the 0800 field.

Now on another note, don’t get set on the fact that you’re going to lose the weight in boot camp. Get started now!!! You don’t want to be the fat kid when you show up and make things harder on your self. Get started now and it will make the transition alot smoother for you

I was in the Air Force so get the job you want to do in writing and read the fine print. The first hitch was with the reserves and was suppose to get a bonus after completing tech school. Reported to my reserve unit and was informed that I missed out on the bonus because I signed up to late. I stated that the only reason my recruiter had be sign up on that later day was the bonus. Bait and switch !!! Active duty is not bad just what you make of it. I traveled around the word and seen some interesting places and on top of that learned a trade that I am still doing today. Like some of the other members have posted it is not for everybody. Recruiters are sales people so just be careful what you are getting yourself in to. If you chose to enlist don't wait to lose the weight. They have a special program for big boys and you don't want to be singled out. I was 6'4 200lbs and they tried to give me Edit at first until they realized that I did more pushups,situps and was in the top 5 on a 1.5 mile run when we first got there.
Good Luck on your decision

People put waaaayyyy too much blame on the recruiters ... they are actually pretty powerless and can not give you ANY job. It is the job of the classifier at MEPS that does that.

Not to say that the recruiter can promise you the world .... but it's up to you to know what you are doing when you are in the hot seat.

That is what I liked about the Navy ... the guaranteed job. We do have apprenticeship programs that people can sign up with and not get a specific job, but they don't just offer that to every swinging Richard who walks in the door.

We have a Master-At-Arms rate that you could look into for law enforcement ... in case you decide to walk away from the army table.

Cheers,
PISTOL

Infantry is the 03xx MOS numbers instead of letters like you all use.

0311=Rifleman
0321=Recon
0331=Machine gunner
0341=Mortar man
0351=LAV crewman
0352=TOW gunner

The last two could be turned around, I never did either of those and it's been a while.

When you go to the MEPS station, do not let the Carreer Counslor BS you into something you do not want. When you test, do the absolute you can. Makes the visit with the Carreer Counslor much easier to get exactley what you want. Can't get what you want? Get up and walk out. If there is a way, they will find it.

Start now on Pushups, situps and running more than two miles. For Ranger school chinups are also a requirement.

exactly. i made E6 on my first enlistment, at my first command in the Navy.
my buddy was a torpedo man, he got a job doing hydraulic repairs in coal fields. big $$, right in line with his MOS

ditto. do you see a pattern here?

RUN RUN RUN. the weight will come off, and you will be ready for BCT.
my daughter just finished BCT and AIT.

her MOS is crap-tac-ular, so she is stuck doing crap jobs at Motor Pool until she makes E6 or E7.

be CAREFUL what you pick
GOOGLE " ARMY PARENTS FORUM "
or something like that.

my wife was a forum for amry parents while the kids are in BCT
some the posts are very enlightening about what happens in BCT>
