hey man, what is it that makes you wanna go into the army specifically. we in the marine corps have all that the army offers and more. just curious. i went to college right after hischool and went into the plc program for potential/future marine officers. im a 0302 infantry officer. im doin my b-billet now at school of infantry east. i should have enlisted instead of became a officer. i enjoyed every minute with the marines when i was with 3/8, but the politics are out of control on my side of the fence. im sure its like that on the snco side, well, actually it is to an extent..................... but i guess what im sayin is make sure you do your homework before signing on the dotted line, cause once you do, sam owns you. im tired of the bull..... if i could just stay in the fleet and deploy, i would but now im a captain and it only gets worse so im hangin my hat up next year. id do it all over again though and the experience, nothing will ever compare, and the brotherhood noone will be able to comprehend it. so have a good one man and good luck

I have been talking to my brother and he say's that if he could do it different he would do Ranger instead of 11C. The Recruiter put him in that and he wanted 11B. So i will watch out for the Recruiter's mess up's.

Also i weigh about 250 and im 6'2 is this a problem or should i just jump into it, if i make my decision, and not try to looses some weight? I know i will loose all of it by time i go to Ranger school. But just worried about the BCT.
Thanks agian.

Lets see...what do I remember the most about Ranger School and the Special Forces Q course....We ran and then we ran some more...after running we all got together and went out and ran again, finishing up the day with another run.. I am not sure but I think we ran asleep as well

Run here, run there, run everywhere.....It can be hard on a big man, I know I was about the same size as you, maybe an inch shorter but arms, legs and a chest like a gorilla (They loved me in an A-Team because I could carry the M-60 and twice as much ammo as anyone else in the Company.)

I had many a person laugh at me and tell me I would never survive the upcoming run, only to run them right into the dirt and beyond. Big does not ALWAYS mean slow Ranger school is not for everyone, you need a certain determined attitude to do well.

If you are tougher than anyone you know and love to scrap... you refuse to be beat and NEVER give up...Then I say go for it!

If not...choose a different MOS or join something easier like the Marines

I knew you would enjoy that

Of course having a resident Admin in the Marine Corp, requires me to take a cheap shot like that every now and then No offense intended Cap

The United States Marine Corps...6years(4years reserve and last 2active duty. I guess the only thing to say is really that you can listen to all us about our experiences. Some are well great and others are well not so fun. But you will never know if you don't try. I know that it takes a lot to sign your name to 6yrs reserve or 4 yrs active, but it will be like nothing else you have ever done. You can't explain it if they have never been there. It becomes more than what you've done there, it becomes a part of you yourself. I wouldn't have traded it for the world, yet I knew it was time to go...but I will always bleed scarlet red and gold. Good luck whatever you do, and if you do go...God Bless

I dont have alot of time right now to explain this one but ill give it a quick shot.

At 6,2 250lb you are over the weight standard however that does not mean you fail. You would then take a body fat % test (short fat test).

THis is nothing to worry about if you are in shape i get short fat tested every time. Because i am short and hevily muscled and i pass. (Muscle heavier then fat)

Look at what the PT test is (APFT (army physical fitness test) figure out how you will do on it. Google APFT The better answer is actually take it before you go in to recruiter that way you can improve on the things you need to so you score better and can get the MOS you want.

Form on push ups is huge. When you are praticing make sure your elbows pass the 90* mark keep your head up and move like a board no snake bs. Its easier to do it right in begining then break a bad habbit later. WHo cares if you can only do 5 correct pushups

Ill try to drop a little more knowlage later sorry for grammar and spelling.

Ranger school sucks but if you can go without sleep and very little food for 90 + days..and that is if you do not recycle or get hurt (oh and that is pre-ranger and ranger school back to back together). I was lucky and did not get hurt and made it straight through in one shot. I was in 2nd Ranger BN for 3 years (03-06) and it was awesome. You are never gonna serve with a better group of guys in your life...but it is a different life and you have to be ready for it. Lots of deployments but you get used to it. Just remember having a tab and being in a Ranger Battalion is two totally DIFFERENT ways of life...TAB and SCROLL is the way to go. Rangers lead the way!

My Brother is a Green Beret. I'm in the AF and am wanting to go CCT. But like Top said, It's all about running. You will be in the best shape of your life. One thing, since you are older and have experainced life more then the 18 year old that joined right after high school and is 24 is they are going to out rank you by a long shot. That was one thing that I had to get used to. But it is also job security. Full health vision and dental. Hard to beat other places of employment.

I'm going to take a different tack. I think that going in the military at 24 will be a mistake for someone who wants to be a federal cop. Unless I am mistaken there is an age cutoff for going into federal law enforcement. I think it is 29.

If you were to do a four year enlistment, you will be precariously close to 29 when you get out. The feds may not be hiring at that time, and you may be closed out.

FWIW, I was in the military for a long time. I would have suggested you go in, if you were in your teens, but not at your age. Not for what you want to do.

I suggest you go talk to some federal LE types. Talk to the ATF, DEA, Customs and Border Protection, or whatever they call it these days, and the FBI. Go to the closest office and just tell whoever is at the desk that you want to talk to someone about the job. They will give you the straight scoop.

Whatever you do, though, I wish you good luck.
