Making cars for your competitors??
Is this a joke? Is BMW really producing Toyota cars now??

Well, the seatbelt stuff is potentially bad- but the rest-
why not cooperate to build a niche product?
Isn't it almost the same as the re-badging of cars that Chrysler and GM did for a long time?
(Read econoboxes from Japan and Korea badged as Chevies etc)
And: It's not really BMW who makes the Supra in Austria. There is a specialized company for small series productions in Graz, who build a lot of the low volume models for a lot of manufacturers. Usually using powertrain components by the mfg on the badge.
Stuff like the SLS AMG, Jaguar I-Pace, the legendary G-Wagon are made by Magna Steyr in Graz.
On the Supra and Z4 they teamed together to make a good sports car and creating different setups to fit into their respective markets.
