How many on here have given up the Nashville habit? I did about 8 years ago...
DAC, Ragweed, the list goes on. Much better than the mainstream garbage.
We oughtta toss em a Molotov Cocktail, maybe that'll change their scene!

I am with you 100% on that. This precanned crap they send out of Nashville now is awful. It is all about how you look now, not about how you sound or what your song is about. It has gotten to the point of being as bad or worse then the cookie cutter boy bands they were sending out of Kalifornia or where ever in the early 2000s. New Country sounds more like pop everyday.

Ragweed, Robert Earl Keen, Jason Boland, I like all them guys from down there!
Good music, but I don't mind "most" of what comes from Nashville either! There is a lot of it though :yuk:!!

You gotta be real picky, I have found. My thing was, I grew up on rock & roll, then it changed. Too much screaming now, so I moved the dial over to the country stations. My personal favorite "genre" would be southern rock-Skynyrd, Marshall tucker, .38 special, Allman brothers, and best of all, The Outlaws. Maybe I'm weird, but some of the new stuff appeals to me, others not so much.
Green Grass and High Tides forever yall!!

I am very picky on what nashville I like now. It has to sound like an old bar song before I'll listen to it. Cept for gretchen. Don't know why but I love all of her songs. She definately brings some energy back into Nashville. But, my favorites are still Texas country. We've got a station here that plays nothing but Texas country and classic country. They even have a jingle that says "Nashville Sucks. It really really sucks. Nashville sucks. It really really sucks."

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
I RARELY listen to radio anymore. When I want music I usually turn to CD's of my favorite artists. Topping the list is, of course, George Strait. I also like pretty much everything from Alan Jackson and MOST of the stuff from Toby Keith. As far as female singers are concerned, Shania Twain is by far my favorite and she's the only female artist I buy CD's from (even though calling her "country" is quite a stretch).
I like some of the "Texas" country, but I'd like it better if every other song wasn't about being in a bar or getting drunk. I never did the whole "bar" scene so that doesn't really appeal to me.
I do like classic country on occasion, but it's not something I generally listen to.

i work out of state alot, 1 thing that keeps me sane is NON nashville country. Right now i have Jason boland and the stragglers playing-Some where down in texas, its one of the many songs ive been listening to alot lately. Then theres Gary P Nun, Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, Cory morrow and the list goes on and and on and on. This might sound odd, but w/out something to remind me of home, i.e. texas country music and red dirt country music, I wouldnt know how to act, probably depressed. When I head to back home i have one particular cd that i made i have it labeled "GOIN HOME" ill list the songs that are on there

Been gone - so long, I can’t wait to get back home
Home to the Lone Star State, another day I just can’t wait
Look out boys, I’m a-headed your way
I got a mind that wonders in a ’57 Chevrolet
Hold on tight, I got a license to fly
With the pedal to the metal watch me roll on by
Wanna boogie back to Texas – boogie back to Texas
Boogie back to Texas – boogie back to Texas
We’re gonna boogie back to Texas, eight beats to the mile
Rollin’ out-a New York, philadelphia
Pittsburg wheelin’, West-Virginia all the way
I’m gonna make it to Kentucky
Gonna make it by the mornin’ If I’m fast an’ if I’m lucky
Hold on tight, I’m a-homeward bound
Gonna boogie back to Austin, back to my hometown
Boogie back to Texas – boogie back to Texas
Boogie back to Texas – boogie back to Texas
We’re gonna boogie back to Texas, eight beats to the mile
Well, state line slammin’ me
Oklahoma city’s just a memory
Forth Worth, Dallas, I roll on by 50 miles
Clear the roads, I’m a-headin’ that way
Gonna boogie back to Texas ‘cross the U S of A
Boogie back to Texas – boogie back to Texas
Boogie back to Texas – boogie back to Texas
We’re gonna boogie back to Texas, eight beats to the mile
We’re gonna boogie back to Texas, eight beats to the mile
Can’t you see I’m on my way … Boogie!

"i gave up on nashville a long time ago"
kinda funny of pat green to say that and then sell out bigger than short hair metallica.
i like REK, mark david manders, james mcmurtry, nathan hamilton, eleven hundred springs, etc.
mainstream country sounds more like pop to me.
i do like old school stuff too...johnny cash, waylon, willie, etc.
IN FACT....im goin to see willie at the rodeo this friday
