At least I stand a better chance at getting her than an 8th grader. One day iker. One day you will understand what all of us grown ups are talking about.

As far as women singers go, gretchen, terri clark, allison kraus, and maybe one or two others and that's about it.

displacedtexan, I did not know that. I know the chat on the radio is just a choir singing it. Didn't know it got started with Cory though.

I agree, MOST of the mainstream stuff nowadays is not too good. New stuff though by artists like Ray Scott, Trent Wilmon, and Trent Tomlinson is great. All 3 have the old-school sound, which is what I look for. I also like the old stuff, like Cash, Waylon, etc. Me and my buddy trade music quite a bit, and I have a little bit more newer stuff, and he has older stuff, so then we wind up with a good mixture of both.

Texas country is good, I've downloaded a LOT of that. Also, I'm now listening to Rhett Akins new song "Kiss My Country A$$." If you havent heard it yet, you ought to, good stuff there. He also sang "Driving my Life Away," "I Brake for Brunettes," and some other stuff back in the mid 90s.

Speaking of mainstream country, I heard that Willie Nelson released a song yesterday about gay cowboys.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Musi...gaycowboys.ap/

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4715822.stm

"Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other, what did you think those saddles and boots was about? There's many a cowboy who don't understand the way that he feels towards his brother, inside every cowboy there's a lady who'd love to slip out"

I don't listen to any Nashville stuff at all anymore... Toby Keith is ok, I always liked Garth Brooks, and I listen to a lot of old stuff-Cash, Willie, Hank Sr and Jr, David Allen Coe, etc... There's a lot of good "alternative country" out there now though. The satellite stations are great too-I haven't listened to Sirius' outlaw station, but I'm sure "x-country" on xm is about the same. Anybody else listen to any of these guys?

Hank Williams III
Shooter Jennings
Drive By Truckers
Steve Earle
Gillian Welch
Uncle Tupelo

I highly recommend them for anyone who's sick of manufactured Nashville crap.

You do know that Nelson was talking about how he wanted to be gay with Burt Reynolds just a matter of months ago?

Eewww...

And as for country music... I like the rockin' country music, like the good old Hayseed Dixie. Yeah... Now THAT'S music! (Zeppelin had that good ol' country song too; Hot Dog.)

I dont care for hardly any country at all. When ever I ride with my friend I always tell him to (please dont be offended) turn that redneck crapoff. Its pretty much a bunch of guys who put on a cowboy hat and think they are bad a$$es. And yes all of this new country is sounding more like pop every day.

The Nashville stuff is anyway. The alternative and "new" outlaw stuff isn't all rhinestone cowboy crap. Listen to the song "Copperhead Road" by Steve Earle-pretty far from Nashville.

Telephone Road is one of my favorites from him. Mainly because it's only about 45 minutes from where I grew up.

I grew up with outlaw country in the '70s and hate the Nashville scene. Looks like a bunch of MTV pop stars. There was a reason why Austin became the alternate country music scene.
I enjoy listening to Outlaw country on Sirius. Heck, they even play Australian outlaw country songs.
