I use the store brand 30 wt in my lawn mower. It only takes 20 ounces so I change it opening weekend and every other month after that mowing weekly. my $100 Wal-Mart push mower is still going after 7 years. New spark plug every year and sharpen the blade on oil changes. I also wash the air filter regularly.

I have run 15W-40 Rotella in both my lawn tractors since the first oil change, one a Snapper 16hp air cooled B&S the other a John Deere liquid cooled 20hp Kawasaki. The Snapper is 10 years old and the John Deere is 11 years old. Never one problem.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I bought into the hype.

synthetics are also bad (well, not good) for bikes with wet clutches.

Personally, I do run motorcycle oils or at least oils rated JASO MA, a motorcycle specific certification for oils that includes providing sufficient friction with wet clutches...

On the other hand, I've also seen ATC's run for many thousands of miles on Rotilla...

I use LE 15/40 all summer and fall, then change over to LE 10W30 diesel oil for winter operations.
