lawn mower modifications?

Bought a new craftsman 18hp riding mower with hydrostatic trans. Since I can't leave nothing alone I was curious if anybody belongs to a lawn mower racing association. I'm looking at gettting it to go faster than the 5 or 6 mph it flys at now.

Until last year I raced a modifed Cub Cadet with the USLMRA in the "Prepared Class" its the poor mans dirt track racin

Its a fun sport "if theres a track close by" it gets spendy if y'all need to travel to a race.....and the modifed engines and drive can cost $$$$

I gave it up after the local track shut down

the best way to get more speed is change the pulley sizes on the engine and transmission. You want to put a bigger pulley on the engine and a smaller one on the tranny. I had a john deer mower where I swapped around the engine and tranny pullies and it would go between 15 and 20, wasnt any good for mowing but it sure was fun.

I'd also have to suggest to just swap out some pullys. the engein has more then enough HP to turn an efective lower gear and with the hydrostatic drive you wont be "locked" into a speed so you can probably still mow with it. Also because the deck runs of acompletly diffrent pully set you should still be able to maintain safe blade speed tomow the lawn.

Had a friend of mine swap two pulleys from ethier side big/small to small/big and turned it into a wheelie poping speed machine.
