Kryptonite locks

Are you aware that a kryptonite (as well as many barrel type key locks) can be picked with a common ball point pen?

Saw this on thehighroad.org in a thread about gun vault locks.

Still haven't tried it on the company vending machines though.

My lock was not that brand but sure enough, I could do it. Kinda scary eh'

Ever tried picking your common house hold Kwikset lock, easy as pie too. Saw it on a movie once, tried it and I have never needed a spare key on the outside of my house since.

I say that, my new house has a "pick proof" five tumbler system....I'm sure someone will get it...For every lock there's a thief that can get past it.

They cost more, but can anyone pick a "Medico" lock without a carbide tipped drillbit?
Hill and valley type plus angle of the valleys give a gazillion different combinations.

Kryptonite is supposedly replacing all of their cylinder key type locks for free through a deal on their website...

I heard that Medico has a standing $100,000 reward for anyone who can pick their locks. I had a locksmith explain them to me. Not only do the pins have to be at the correct height but they have to be rotated by the angled cut of the key also. I'd say the lock is completely pickproof.

Not so with the so called bulletproof Master locks. Sure you can shoot them with a rifle but why would anyone bother with that when a hairpin will do.

I had a storage locker in CA that had it's Master lock picked so I bought a $50 padlock that the locksmith said would be very difficult to pick. 2 weeks later I found my locker open and this time they took the lock too. I got a Medico and that stopped THAT ****!

How about the lock cylinders they put on Stanley Vidmar cabinets? Those look impossible, if not very extremely hard to pick. The keys don't have the standard notches cut in them. They notches are cut in the side of the key. Two rows on each side of the key. These cabinets are meant to protect your tools and other expensive stuff. Real heavy too, no way someone can walk off with it.

Sorry, didn't mean to get too far off topic.

Oh Wow! Vidmar keys look like a tiny milling machine went crazy on them.. I bet those are pretty pickproof too.. I know they sure are expensive to get a new key cut!
There is another key that looks like someone took a drill and drilled abunch of dimples on each side. Location and depth. they look pretty secure too!

Locks only keep honest people honest.

Part of my job is inspecting homes that have been abandon. Once I know they are vacant I can walk up to a lock and get inside faster than you can by using the key 90% of the time, and I am not kidding.

In 25 years, and over 1,000 homes I have only been locked out three times. And in those times I broke out a window, or door to get in.

Man I LOVE my job!
