Cool Just got home from Back surgery

Hey guys i just got back home from having back surgery, Man I feel like I got hit by a truck , twice......... Not real sure how much better my back will be. Its hard to tell right now, all i do is pop pain pills and sleep the good thing is that I have 3 months of con-leave ....Ill need it im sure, I still cant get over the fact that of every one that came to see me the Hospital Commander, my 1SG, CO, and just about all of the LT's CPT's and SGT's on my floor that my Head Nurse the Major did not come down to see me and expects me to be back to work in 2 weeks. Although he is kind of a joke though, and may be fired ..........( great way to take care of your soldiers, and show you support them)....... ok enough of the ranting, Any how Ill be spending alot of time on here for the next few weeks untill i can atleast get into the ol CTD and take her for a spin
Thanks guys

Best of luck man! I don't know from experience, but I have always heard that once you have back surgery........you are just never the same again. I certainly hope that is not what happens in your case. Get well soon!

Thanks for your service!

Have not had back surgery myself, but know LOTS of folks who have had it. Follow the orders they give you, do the exercises at the pace they recommend and if you smoke, now would be a heck of a good time to quit. I do not know if you had a fusion or not, but if you did, and you smoke it is not going to heal most likely. If all they did was take out some disc parts and clean things up then by not smoking you will heal up much quicker. Good luck and thank you for your service. Sorry for the lecture.

Hope you have a speedy recovery. Just make sure to walk a much as possible. I have a few friends that had back surgery and they were all told to walk and walk A LOT. They said it helped the healing process. But just follow the Dr.'s orders to the letter and you should be fine.

Who was the surgen? I know a few of them here.

D. Beard,
Good luck on the recovery!! I know what you mean about the Maj. I work for on myself and sometimes they just don't understand. All I can say is ignore him for the time being and listen to the Dr's.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys and you can laugh but i am a nurse in the army now former 0311 in the corp and 12B in the army but again im a nurse now. I dont smoke but i do agree its really really bad if you are trying to heal it acts as a vasoconstrictor, and limits O2 saturated blood from getting to the wound site and Rockcrawler it was Dr Rooney(LTC) He is one of the army's top ortho surgeons, and the best in el paso my cousin is a ortho rep and works with every ortho surgeon in el paso and he even said im luck to have him operate on me. but again thanks for your thoughts and prayers i cant yet walk on my own yet i have yo use a walker but im up all the time and walking. I think im gonna take a trip outside when the wife gets home its gonna be nice outside today and im gonna take advantage of it. THANKS A MILLION GUYS

I broke my back last July, T-12 burst fracture. No surgery required, wore a brace for 14 weeks. If I layed flat on my back I was in no pain, very lucky on that , most movement though was very painful for the first 6 weeks. I guess what I'm trying to say is it will get better. The pain will go away, it takes time, lots of long boring days. Hang in there, we are all pulling for you.

A friend of mine bought me something like this, came in very handy:

Good luck on the recovery!
I had surgery in October;I had herniated L5-S1 and the done a lumbar micro discectomy. My pain was severe, couldn't walk more than a few feet,it was a bad deal! Anyway, I'm doing pretty good, back to driving, riding my ATV and most of the other everyday things. I'm still restricted to 30 lb max as far as lifting things but other than that I feel pretty good! I get minor pain sometimes bad enough to make me worry and wonder if I've re-herniated but the pain doesn't last...just hangs around long enough to remind me....BE CAREFUL!
You'll get back to normal or close to it. Just be careful and follow doc's orders! Good luck and thanks for serving!
