If you think you had a bad day?
Things are going very well, one doctor is talking Wednesday for a discharge the others have not said.
The PT people have said that they can find no reason to work with her. The speech therapist is working with her and will continue to do so. It looks like her speech will be the only noticeable lasting affect.
We have been talking and it seems that she is afraid that when she gets home, that she will be alone, and this will happen again. So we may have some lasting problems that have not been addressed yet. I will talk to the doctor today .All in all if she never recovers more that she has as of today that will be ok. The grand kids are having fun with her, when she says the wrong word or can’t get the word out they all start guessing until she says” that’s it”. Then we go on with the conversation. She thinks their funny.
You have all been great it has been good to be able to vent and know that others have been through this also. If anyone ever says that prayer does not work show him or her this post.

That's really good news, I'm glad to hear that things turn to the better.
I don't have too much experience with stroke recovery, but if it had been a concussion her knowledge of the correct words (she can identify them you say) would indicate that with proper training she'll regain command of her vocabulary.
I do understand her anxiety about being back home alone, but I think that there will be ways to avoid these situations.
My best wishes

Sounds great keep us informed, I shared this post with my wife and she was elated to hear all of the prayers and has asked me for updates. Give your wife a hug from all of us and our prayers are still with you. Goodluck,,,,Rick

The Power of Prayer ---- once again. Thanks for letting us know of her progress. We will still keep praying for her total and rapid recovery.
bigfoot. I am sorry about your wife it sounds as though you guys will be together for along time to come from what you said .i will pray for a complete recovery for her and strength for you.
One of the Vets is saying she might be able to go home tomorrow. I hope so.
Not sure which is the worst her being in the HP or me having to go see her in the HP? I don’t think I’m real well liked. I ask to many questions.

You keep on asking and demanding answers it is your right and do not let them tell you otherwise, my wife has been a RN for years and says it is your right to ask as many as you want and you are owed the answers and if they are not and you are a given the slightest hesitation take it to the charge nurse and or the Hospital administrators and if that does not satisfy you then go to the state board of health and the state nursing board. Sounds like it is working out. If she's worried about a recurrence, keep a cell phone handy, even an old one will be able to dial 911. You could get old ones from friends and keep them in each area of the house, just teach the grand kids they're not toys. I'm sure they'll get her on the right program to prevent this in the future though.
We got her home yesterday afternoon. She is on a drug called cumadin (spelling?). The doctors seem to think that she will be ok. This drug supposedly lowers her chances of having another stroke to less than 5%. That is about the same chance that anyone that has not had a stoke has of having one.
She is afraid but I think she will get over it in time . This has not been a fun time but it is getting better daily.
Thanks for your prayers and thoughts.

BigFoot, I just read every post in this thread. I'm glad to see your wife is doing good. When I was 5, my granddad had a massive stroke, he survived, but never ever walked or talked again. He died about four years later at the age of 70. He was a great man and everyone who met him loved him. He was trapped in his own body, and confined to a wheelchair when not in bed. Even though he could not talk, you could easily tell exactly what he wanted to say. I regret losing him so early because I'm sure he'd still be around today.
What I'm getting at is this: I have first hand knowlege of these things, and hearing about someone recovering from one really makes my day. I don't wanna tell you you don;t know how lucky you are, beacause I'm sure do.
Please tell your wife not to give up, we're all praying for her... and you too.
Best of luck!!!

Bigfoot,
Glad to hear that your wife improved so quickly.
The medication that the doctor prescribed for your wife is what my sister describes as her "blood thinner." She suffered two strokes, prior to Coumidin, that caused a speech disturbance.
Her speech recovered and she has been taking Coumidin for about a year now with excellent results. As I understand it, this particular medication reduces the chances of another clot forming and moving, which can lead to a stroke.
Your doctor should be able to address your wife's anxiety about being alone.
God bless you and your family.
Tom
