If the house is on adjoining property to yours, and it really is abandoned, see if the taxes are paid up. If it goes to tax sale, you can probably pick it up cheap. Then you can knock it down and build a really honkin' garage for you truck and toys.

A buddy did that after a meth bust. He got a house and 3/4 of an acre for $175. He made a deal with a local scrounger to tear it down but the scrounger got to keep all recyclables. He had a 1 1/2 ton dump truck and half the wood was given away on Freecycle to burn in fireplaces. It cost him another $250 or so in dump fees. A couple of loads of dirt and he built one fantasic garage. He built it over the water and sewer with a shower and toilet and it is classified as a one bedroom house with attached garage. The garage part is 24X40 feet and the living area is about 10X15. Small but it met the zoning rules. He keeps three cars in there and nothing ever sits outside.

Still a little disturbing having people hanging out there. First its two guys than its a gang. Like Shorts said, it would be nice to get rid of it (legally).

Uh, ok, guys using an abandoned house as a hang-out don't need a few dogs chained up outside. Your first guess was right on target.

Drug house or something ilegal was going on.

Did you know that during storms, lighning even a few blocks away can explode gas cans or even said flairs and cause a house to burn down????!!!! Hint, hint!

Stay silent you don't want them to suspect you for calling the police.

Wear very dark clothes and run in the opposite direction during storms.

Bill I'm surprised you couldn't hear the generators running. The person or person probably got arrested. Being having an illegal weapon and possession of drugs. Good thing you called. I was in the hospital having test done over night when the meth lab went up in Somers Point right at the end of the block. It shook that building LMAO! Be safe and keep your trusty one available.

don't know how close you are to a sheriff station but they have a common placard (sign) that posts a property that the sheriff's office is keeping it under patrol supervision. (like a vacation home)
we have them here in new york state from the troopers or local sheriff's office. free. gives you great protection and looks like the police put it there from the circumstances, not you.

bad guys tend not to hang out under these conditions. the best defense is a good offense, just sayin'.... sleep well.

Heck, I'd even see if it was available for a cheap tax sale and then donate it to the fire department for a practice burn.

OR just let the FD know about it. Maybe they're like the boys here; if they know a house is abandoned, they burn it for 'practice' regardless of ownership.

People here are way too uptight to ever do something like that lol. They say that they are working on the house trying to fix it up (thats what the cop says anyway) but I do not see any permits for any renovation work there. I don't want to cause them any problems but I don't want the drugs around me either. I also don't want them coming over here to see what they can steal when I ain't looking. am sure they would not let it go for taxes because that property has been in the same family for 100 years and the property next to it is their parents so I am sure they would not let it go for taxes but I geuss you never know.

Probably a little difference in state law, but much of it is federal too. This guy has a local sunday morning radio show and says he is open to e-mail questions anytime. His sight might help trigger some questions for you and he may even be able to recommend somebody in your area.

Sounds like there is resistance from the family for the idea of the house going away. Uhhgg...wont be easy then.

Motivated by this thread I did some research to the abandoned place across the street from us. Turns out it too has been in the family that owns the 28ac trailer park..err mobile home park for a loooonnng time (hey I lived in a trailer park when I was young, I know how it goes). So no way it'll go away. All that stands on the lot the house use to be (torn down this summer) is a 2car detached garage (run down and probably storage) and a old Ford truck that never moves. I've seen random vehicles go in and out and I'm telling myself it was probably the owners. But at 11pm, several vehicles, teenage laughter and squealing tires is not what imagined.

Who says the cops told you what was really going on in there. They like to keep some of the stuff to them selves sometimes.

Running generators and guard dogs is not a typical hang out.
