Need new tires before long, looking for some advice.

Hi guys. It's been a while since I've been here. This place has a funny way of making money disappear out of my wallet, and I just couldn't do it anymore. So I left for a while, just so all of you people wouldn't convince me that I needed more power.

Anyway, It won't be long and I'm going to need some more tires. I haven't bought anything for my truck in a long while, so I'm going to treat her to something new. I really want to run 37's if possible. I've searched on here and seen that some of you are running them with no lift () or with leveling kit/springs. I have the Skyjacker leveling springs, and I'm running 305s right now with no problems at all. I will definitely be running the stock rims and no wider than a 37/12.5. What exactly will I need to do to fit these? I've seen that some of you running 37s had to trim your fenders. What exactly did you have to trim? Is it easily done? Anybody with pics? Also, how much rubbing, if any do you have?

Second subject, I have narrowed it down to two brands that I'm looking at. But I have questions about one of the tires I'm looking at, Pro Comp Xtreme ATs. Does anyone have pics of these? Does 4wheelparts still do that buy 3 Pro Comps get one free thing from time to time? If that's the case, I'll be REALLY tempted to buy them.

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.

Well, I've been running load range D tires for the life of my truck and I haven't had any problems. I don't tow much though. And when I do its not that heavy. So unless there's something that I'm not aware of when moving to 37s, then I believe that I'll be fine.

As far as the Pro Comps, I don't like any of their tires, but when they came out with those Xtreme AT's, they got my attention. I've searched on here, and it appears that they are a pretty good tire. From what I understand, they are nothing like their other tires such as the regular ATs, MT, Xterrain (which are absolute garbage on a heavy truck). So anyone that has experience with the Xtreme ATs, please feel free to chime in. I'm interested in hearing your take on them.

I'm not looking at running the MTs. I'm not looking at their regular ATs either. I am looking at the Xtreme ATs. I don't know if there's some confusion or what. Here's what they look like:

If I'm not mistaken, the Pro Comp MTs in 33 X 17 are not E rated, which could be part of the problem, especially when towing.

I know opinions are like a...holes, but don't count out ProComp tires. No exp w/ the extreem A/T's, but I had a set of Mud Terrains that lasted pretty long considering the conditions they were in.
Have a set of Pro Comp All Terrains on my DMax now and they wear great. I usually rotate tires every 5k mi or so, but these just seem not to wear unevenly and really don't show much tread loss after almost 20k mi. I've rotated them once only. They get decent snow traction, quiet, and cost considerably less than the BFG's I was going to get (w/ the buy3, 1 free deal).

I did some fender mods to ensure no rubbing with the 37s

With the stock wheels I ended up with the tires rubbing the control arms and the sway bar. I only needed a little fender trimming. I basically just moved the fender back a bit by opening up the mounting holes and bent the lower part of the fender back. It has a 1" bend that I just pushed back. something like this

To resolve the swaybar and control arm rubbing I went to a wheel with 5.5" of backspacing, if I recall correctly. They gave me more fender rubbing, so I did a couple other mods.

I bent the pinch weld over and took some more metal off the bottom of the fender. Then I got rid of some on the plastic liner. From the following pics you can get a idea of what I did.

I have been thinking of longer control arms, this would eliminate some of the fender trimming, but add the cost of control arms to your project. 400 to 4000, the later if you want some pretty aluminum ones. (Not sure on that last price, just having some fun)

With all that work done, no one notices it.

As far as what tires, I have also never been a pro comp fan. But I have never tried them.

I will say that I dont like AT tires in general. They seem to pick up every rock and throw them against the side of the truck. MTs seem to do this less. But the rocks they throw up are bigger and make more noise and bigger paint chips, LOL.

I have had great luck with BFG over the years, AT and MT. trying some Toyos on the jeep, they seem good as well. Not sure if they are worth the extra $$$ over the BFG though. I had MTRs on the jeep when I bought it. I did not notice any real difference between them and the Toyos. So I guess what I am saying on tires, get your best deal. I seem to want to change tires out long before they wear out any way.

Thinking that is a long enough post.

you might think twice about the D rated tire in 37s. I find when you go to a taller tire the stronger the side wall the better. With 37s you might flot when your cornering. I like a solid ride, if I go above 33s or bigger I personly go to E rated tire. Just a thought, good luck.
