This is kinda a long story but I hope some one can tell me how to find out the info I want. I have a house that is kinda behind mine that has beed abandoned for 20 years. I found out around new years that there were four pitbulls tied up in the yard. One got loose and came into my yard and tried to fight with one of my dogs. I called the police and when they came out they didnt really do much so I had animal control. By the time I got them out there there was only one dog that was dying and they took it. Then e few days ago there was a car that pulled in the drive was at 10pm and was there for a while so I called the police again. They came out again and there was 5 police officers there for 2 hours. I called and asked what the story was and they said that they could not tell me anything other than they arrested someone and the really appreciated the call. There were generators running but I never heard them till I was listening really good when the police were there. I am thinking that maybe it was a meth lab but that is just a guess. The officer that I spoke with told me that it would be in the paper but that was a week ago and still nothing. I know that there is some public info laws but I dont know what they are and I know that you guys and gals here know a lot of stuff lol. How do I go about obtaining the info I want about what went on. I dont need details but I would like to know what happened in my neighbor hood. Thanks

You can make a request through the freedom of information act. You will have to purchase your copy of the report. When you make a formal request, they have a deadline on getting you the info, but may edit sensative material. Most departments will have a specific form to fill out for the request.

freedom of information act. proabably was a meth lab. steer clear and make sure you are packing. these guys don't care and will do anything. stay vigilant

Have you checked the folks booked into the jail locally. Here, we can look at the county jail roster. Most names have an associated charge that goes with them. You might find a little info there.

I dont care to know their names I just wanted to know what was going on. I am not trying to get involved at all I just want to know what went on in my back yard if you know what I mean.

These guys are right, (go figure, a trooper and a past deputy!), just make a Freedom of Information Act request. Just tell them you want to make a FOIA request, pronounced FOY-ya, just so you know.

You probably know someone who knows someone who knows a local cop. Ask around. The animal control guy you spoke to probably knows too.

Throw a lit road flare through a window from a distance. If the place explodes immediately then it was a meth lab, if it doesn't then your screwed. At least you will know either way.

Well thanks for the advice everyone I finally got an answer. It was just some guys using the house as a hangout and they had an old shot gun and 2.8oz of pot. It really wasn't a big deal but they made it seem like a big deal by not telling anyone what was going on.

Even bad guys have federal right to privacy protection, that's why you have to foia stuff.

Any chance o f the abandoned house being taken down to prevent further incidents like this? Seems like it would be one to qualify for those"beautify the community" projects.
