How far can you hear a tornado the news just reported that there is a tornado on the ground 2 miles from me

 

All depends on how big it is. Category 4 can be heard from a long ways away. Category 1 maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile.

 

My daughter and her family live in Drum Point, MD...if you look at the map that is right smack in the middle of it right now... talked to my son in law three hours ago said they lost power around 6:00 ET and said it was raining like hell...over 7 inches since noon today...said they are not supposed to be out of the woods until in the morning...all six, daughter, son in law and four grand kids 7, 5, 2, 9 mo are hunkered down stairs riding it out...

 

You gotta hope they throw the book at those two kayakers they had to rescue in New York Harbor. Always some idiots who wind up risking the lives of EMS personnel. Im surprised there haven't been more surfer deaths.

 

Back online, lost power for a little over 12 hrs. No damage, just a couple of tree branches down and a leak in my roof I didn't know was there

Took a ride over into Seaside to check on the parents, they are fine, house is fine, my boat is fine. The couple of roads that run along Barnegat Bay are under water right now though, and so are some of the docks at the marina where I keep my boat. Island looks pretty much intact though. Heard there is a section of Rt 36 up in Long Branch NJ that was washed out.

The seawall by the entrance to the marina, the bulkhead usually averages 4' above sea level. The tide has actually receded a bit when I took this pic, it was completely submerged earlier in the day

I'm about 40 miles NW of Philly. Didn't loose power. People about 10 milse West of me lost power 10 to 12 hours ago. Keith

Very surprised that none of the boats remaining in the marina sank or had any serious damage to them, a large percentage of people pulled their boats out for this storm

 

We finally got power back and the internet. We fairer the storm pretty well it really wasn't that bad for me at all thank god. My friend a few miles away had some major major flooding issues. The water rose up into his shed and started an electrical fire. He lost all that was in the shed but it could have been much much worse. There was about 30 gallons of gas in the shed and the cans melted but the gas never caught on fire. He was very very lucky. The fire actually burned itself out somehow the fire department came and made a huge mess of things. I was thankful they came there hut they were all kids that had no idea at all what they were doing.

 

A member of the Princeton (NJ) First Aid and Rescue Squad is critical after attempting a water rescue in Princeton near the Johnson Park School this morning. A second member was also transported by EMS. This situation occurred during an attempted swift water rescue that took place in Princeton due to related weather from hurricane Irene.

Also in storm related news, in the Centerville area of Ulster County NY, a fire apparatus ended up in a culvert with reported Firefighter injuries this morning

Additionally, a Paramedic with Jersey City medical center in Newark was involved in a crash around 0100 hours. A car blew a red light as they were transporting a patient to the hospital - the ambulance was t-boned entrapping the occupant of the car that hit them. Both medics received NTL injuries. The driver of the vehicle was intoxicated.
