Hurricane Irene, Anybody here in danger?

Like the title says, is anybody here in danger of the wrath that may come your way?

If so, thoughts and prayers to you to stay safe!

I'm sitting in a hotel in Wilmington right now waiting to go to Jacksonville, NC in the morning to work that area toward the outer banks. Gonna be doing evacuations and rescues, traffic control etc. Lets hope people listen and take heed to our warnings. It's going to hit as a major. Good luck to those in it's path.

I cleaned out the rain gutters and downspouts, secured loose stuff in the yard, test fired the generator, rounded up a few extension cords, and put several "Barley-Pops" in the fridge.

I'm as ready as I can get.

Meds and pets usually get forgotten about in a panic or chaotic situation.

Thanks, I will pass your prayers on.

Things are really ramping up at the base, sand bagging some areas for the last 2 days, all ships out and away from harbor . . the civilian pop has now issued some mandatory evac to the residents of the north side of Norfolk. I bet they will do evacs in stages and most all of Norfolk will be evac'd, all is in stage 1 and stage 2 flood zone. Mil families are being given some stiff instructions, shelter designations being assigned, obviously they want to keep a head count, all shelters are also taking pets . . it really does not sound good out there.

My Daughter had their car packed and ready to leave if all goes to he** and not much left standing - and that is pretty much what the mil is telling the mil families. Their car is parked on high ground, or higher ground, kids car seats strapped in it . .l weeks worth of clothes and food in the car. If their living areas gets wiped out or severly flooded - expected - and will be unlivable for quite some time, they are coming here to New Mexico and will be with me until her hubby returns from deployment in the ME at the end of the year. Navy has already handed a very generous stipend for them to relocate on . . what does that tell you?? But they plan to shelter mil families until it is safe for them to be on roads, etc, they don't want them to have problems in the civilian mayhem that is already getting too crazy in the area.

And people call us crazy for storing food, ammo, clothing, money and guns...

When did preparing for the worst become a stigma???

Good luck to all those out there, sounds as though your gonna need it. Lots of dependent people out there who aint gonna be happy when the corner store runs out of twinkies and smokes.

I know for darn sure if I lived out there, the house would have boarded up, the trailer would have been packed and we would have been on the road days ago.

I'm glad the only thing I have to worry about is a caldera that will kill the world if it blows. And maybe a couple skeeters...

Pulled my boat out of the water on Thursday, my parents live in Seaside, part of the barrier island system along the NJ coast, the boat is sitting at their place next to the house blocked up tied down and everything else we could do. Helped dad buckle down their house but they chose to stay on the island along with many of their neighbors, they have my dads truck packed with clothes food and supplies for the pets ready to go if the poop really hits the fan. My biggest fear is that things get really bad for them, I cant get there to help, the bridge going into Seaside was shut down today at noon.

Everyone on the east coast stay safe, even if you are inland be careful, heard of a fatality in NC, guy went out to feed his animals and a tree fell on him.

Keep you all posted............
