Hunting

Time to clean the cobwebs off the sights and get some shooting in. For the guys that get a surprise when you take it out of the case, light rubbing with very fine steel wool over pledge wiil help take off minor rust. The pledge helps lubricate so the wool doesent cut into the finish. BUT! nothing is perfect and last I checked, you still can't go back through time.

Re:Hunting

Pledge is what I use to keep my guns from rusting or pitting. Haven't had any problems with it and neither has my dad. He is the one who told me about it and that was a fairly long time ago. A number 2 pencil is also great for removing rust off of blued barrels and will fill in the small pits pretty well. Hope this is in line with your topic.

Went for birds the other day, I'll do some more this week. Regular Firearm deer opens 11/15 in Michigan. A lot of outdoor clubs do sighting in programs for the public about now.

Re:Hunting

You guys make me jelous. I'm sitting here (and for the last three weeks) with a cervical collar on and a five pound weight restriction. I had a nerve getting pinched in my neck and the surgeon also found that there was pressure being put on my spinal cord too. Now I have two extra pieces of bone and a stainless steel plate in my neck. Doctor says IF things go well I might get to go back to work by the middle of December. By that time hunting is pretty well done here.

Re:Hunting

Yeah, you picked the wrong time of the year to get hurt. The way I was shooting yesterday, you'd think I had a collar on.

Re:Hunting

Gonzo, it has been three weeks and I still can barely get my right hand to my face. If it is on a table in front of me I can just barely lift it off the table. Don't know if that is the way it should be or not, but I sure don't like it. And I am sure sick of not being able to do much.

Tom, if they have you doing excercizes, stay on top of it bud. They say you lose 3 percent of your total strength each day your in bed. And it doesn't come back as quick as it goes. Hope things get better. Don

Get up and get mobile, it hurts like hell but do it. You'll find that it is frustrating not being able to do the things you once did. I went overboard and kept moving around, constantly work that arm and shoulder until it won't move at all. The drugs if you are still on them need to go, they slow you down and make you feel really lax about the recovery.

You have to be careful about that too. If the pain is still bad and or its early in the healing process, I would take them. Another thing they say is that pain causes your body to make hormones, etc., that actually inhibit the healing process. Taking pain meds will reduce this problem. being in pain may also hurt your motivation to stay pro-active.

Re:Hunting

I've had my knee done several times and recovery is a pain. Like Gonzo said, you have to keep up with your PT but you don't want to over do it either. Just make sure your doc is ok with what your doing and stick with it. Oh and don't stop when you get your strength back or lose the pain cause it will go south on you again. I'd say stick with your PT for atleast a year. The muscles have memories like an elephant and will go back to a weakened state in a hurry. Which is a recipe for reinjuring it. Working also helps with the bone growth and adhesion. Weight to your PT will enhance this growth but you have to go slow and steady and of course as per your docs direction. Get better and we'll get some for yuh this year. ;D

Re:Hunting

Believe it or not, I wasn't given any pt yet.......was just told to go home and take it easy and use my own judgement as far as getting mobile. There is no pain to speak of, just alot of weakness. I can go anywhere I want and can drive too. Just bored as ..........you know. With a five pound weight restriction there is not much I can do.
