How to save videos???

Okay, I often run across videos on here and on the internet that I would like to save on a disk. How do I do this?? I've tried to figure it out, but had no luck. I can open it into windows media player, but cant get it on a disk. Thanks a lot, George

If its being hosted on a media server, your out of luck as far as I know. Otherwise you can right click the link to the video and choose save as.

You might be able to use an alternate browser like MOzilla or Opera to save it.

I have been able on occasion to locate the temp file that gets downloaded for the video before it's automatically deleted. But this is by far a hit and mostly miss proposition. I was able to do it with realplayer years ago but I haven't tried it lately so they may have tightened things up to make it impossible.

To have any luck at all you'd need to play the video but leave the page open when the video is finished. I think the system may cache the temp file locally in case you want to play it again. Then open My Computer and make sure hidden files are shown and also don't hide file extensions ( a stupid option IMHO). Then do a search for files saved in the last 5 minutes or so of the entire drive.

Double click on likely candidates like .wmf and such and see what you get. You may need to copy the file to a different filename so it won't get deleted by the player when you close the original view.

YMMV.

A media server will stream the video to you instead of caching all of it in one file.

The above is for the older ASF format. Searching for the mms format as well.
