How long should Charities ask you for money?

in 1998, I gave a charity where we lived some money, prolly not much, prolly less $50. ( i am cheap

since then, they have been sending me requests for more

they have pulled my updated address somehow, and changed both times I have moved to a different state.

what gives? my goodness, get a clue and quit asking.

if i want to support a charity, I would do it local.

Can you contact somebody in charge and request your name be removed from their mailing and phone lists??

Once you give, they are like a stray cat. They will never go away if you feed them. Even once. Same with homeless beggars in the major street intersections.

Sometimes you need to be direct.

When they call tell them, "I can appreciate your need to ask but I'm not in a position to support your cause at this time. Please remove my name from your call list and it will save you frustration and me time. I appreciate it. Thanks."

Job done.

well, i think the local charities are best to support.

here is my favorite, they used to come to our church in my last town and tell about their ministry:

if you go to thier contact page, you can give to them via PAYPAL, which is pretty easy for me, if i make a big hit on Ebay, i send a little bit of cream off the top.

it just irks me that this one place says "we can feed one person for .49 cent"
"please send us $100"

all things in moderation.

Even the previous owner received all kinds of donation request by mail. There is one, I won't mention how many times I have sent it back "return to sender" "no such person" "remove from mailing list" and they keep sending the mail to my address addressed to the old owner. It's really insane how much junk mail we receive.

Yeah, here they do the combined contributions. Since much of the employee base are libs, I always check off the NRA box.

With me,... ONCE...
If I want to give something, I'll call them...
The requests in the mail are just a fact of life... I just toss 'em... But the PHONE is another matter!

Shortly after the wife and I married, we contacted a certain state wide "charity" to come pick up some nice stuff for a donation. They did, but then they harassed us to give, give, give for more than 18 yrs! (always at dinner time, with a pushy guy on the other end..)
It seems they didn't have to respond to do-not-call list requests since they were legally registered as a "disabled/paralyzed" charity..
Supposedly, THey could legally disregard our requests to LEAVE US ALONE!!!
Their relentless, pushy actions ensured I'd NEVER give to them again! Thankfully, it has been a few years since I've had to get my blood pressure up over them...

Good luck! It's almost impossible to get off their databases.

Simply trash the mail... Just be glad it's not the phone or e-mail!!!

The problem is, once you donate, and they have your info, they sell it to others that put you on a "sucker list".
If you are going to donate, do it anonymously so that you don't have to divulge your private info to anyone.

No one but you and your Lord need to know who and how much you gave to any charity.
Especially some of those unscrupulous boiler room outfits that only end up giving about 5% of every dollar after they pay their overhead and administrative fees.

A perfect example of those would be the State Troopers Benevolent Assoc, they called our shop 15 - 20 times per day. I finally told them hey, my partner died, and I am pretty much on my own (truth BTW) and can't afford to donate any time in the near future, so stop calling us, and take us off your records period.

So then the guy does a 180 on me and apologizes for bothering us. He then proceeds to tell me that if I needed to make some extra money to help out, they are hiring 120 more people in my area, to solicit donations via the phone. So I tell him I can't ask people for money and that I am no salesman by any sense of the word, and he says for me to give it some thought because starting pay is $16.00 per hour plus commission.

Turns out they only pay the Troopers 2.5% after expenses and commissions.
So most of these so called charity's see very little if any of the money you donate. Just a bunch of shysters trying to make a buck off a legitimate cause.

I give to Charity,s all the time, I stop if they send me a letter
asking if I have a will, or if I would like them to help me make
a will.

I think the same people who call about student loans also work for charities.. Those people can find you anywhere.. If you want to find Bin Laden just tell the charity people he's looking to give moeny
