Wow. Thank you for stopping, taking time out of your day, praying for and comforting victums. You may have to process this a while, but it seems you already understand what's important in life. Keep it up, and never loose that others-centeredness. It's all too rare.

As a firefighter/emt on a truck co. our first priority is rescue/lifesafety and includes everything from jaws calls, m/e's, searching for victims in fires to rescuing a hikers trapped dog etc, etc. I have been to thousands and thousands and thousands of incidents, the majority with unpleasant outcomes. We deal with it in different ways dependant on the cicumstances of the incident, for example, I, with my captain just pulled 2 kids out of house fire a little over weeks ago, neither one made it. It was a somber/quiet night back at the station, just this past tuesday I found a victim in a fire that was burnt to a cynder, still had the crack pipe in its hand on its chest, back at the station it was business as usual, see where I am going here? Like any job, you learn to deal with things when they come your way. We do have a local irish pub that we go to several time a year (along with a bunch of our brothers in blue) and blow off some steam, laugh and make fun of and cry at thing that have happened, or during the nice weather months I have huge bon fires at my house and a ton of the guy's and there families come over for burgers, beers, and dogs, and swimming, etc. The brotherhood works for us, I could not do this job without it.

Thank you for stepping up and stopping to help, you knew it was going to be tough but you did it anyway, you did make a difference in that families life.

Thanks for your thoughts and words guys, better today. Things sort of went automatic when it happened I didn't think about it, stop, pull the cell phone and check on them. It made the paper today the one woman is fair condition but ok, the other was 32 yrs old.

Thanks again

Tom, glad you got out to check and make yourself available in case there was something you could do for her. Many cell callers don't bother to stop and check. It makes the job nicer when you have somebody to gather info and give directions to for rendering aid until medical can get there. Makes it feel like we're helping too. Even if it looks hopeless and there is nothing you can do, just talking to them can keep the heart rate up enouph to slow the on-set of shock. You never know what they can and can't here. If it bothers you down the road at all, don't hesitate to talk about it, even on here. You can be fine for years and something could trip some emotions out of no where. Good job though.

I know first hand how tough it is to even walk up on a scene like that, I witnessed a young lady cross the median on an interstate and drive head-on into a semi. Not much left of the car but I tell you, it took me three attempts to get up enough nerve to walk up and see it there was anyhing I could do. Difference was she survived, me and another truck driver had to get her out of the car because it was smoking. Took me several days to get unwound, very unsettling to say the least. Was glad I was there to help, but at the time I would not have called it a blessing because of the effect it had on me. I did learn that there is NO WAY I could be an EMT.

Glad you were there to help, I know the survivors and the girls families appreciated it.

EMT's, docs, and nurses will ALWAYS have a spot in my heart. Every day of this stuff takes its toll on anyone. I watched my 1 1/2year old go thru cancer, and she made it, but I had to watch a whole lot of other familys whos kids didn't. If that won't change your outlook on life, nothing will. Now my kid is 6 and doing great, and I thank God for that.

I've seen a couple very bad injuries (falls) in const work and a couple construction deaths, both traffic related, and you don't get used to it at all.
The worst was seeing my best friend and his fiance killed right in front of me by a drunk driver. I luckily made it thru, no injuries, but totalled a 26' UHaul van.
Fortunately the drunk driver died too, or I'd be in jail for murder!
The only good that came out of the whole thing was that I learned a new respect for life and although I still work just as hard as I used to, I don't let things bother me, 'cause I always think "Today might be my last, can't let this get to me."

Like the BIBLE sais God lets us live in our own free will wethter we choose to follow Him or not is up to us just like its up to us to check our tire pressure or NOT drink and drive so if God chooses to send somone your way or there way to help somone in there time of need should we really question him in that way. We all question things at times like why did God allow this or that and then years down the road even if we dont realize it it may have made us stronger. And in some cases bad things that happen are a DIRECT result of us not following HIM. hope this helps

Fellow co-worker was driving on I-65 toward lafayette and was involved in a very scary situation. A semi was parked half way on the interstate(f'tard) and was struck from behind by another one. My friend was slightly in front of the truck that hit the parked truck and still managed to get sprayed with diesel. Luckily both truckers lived but my friend was white as a ghost the whole day after going back to help out.

God bless and thanks for caring!

Nice response to his post, I had debated responding when I read it, but would not have put it as eloquently as you, nice job.

Exactly! The sooner one figures this out....the better off they are.

I agree w/ Hvytrkmech. I wasn't going to comment on the qoute, either.

But I will now.

When that accident happened and that lady died, God wept. He gives life to be lived at free will. Whether you accept Him or not is your choice. If you chose not to, why argue the point. Just chose to leave it alone.
