ATV Paths

Call me bored but I want to make some ATV paths back through some of the woodland and was wundering if anyone had an ideas on how to get rid of stumps aside from cutting them low to the ground. I'd like to take the CTD back there and yank them suckers out but it's not likely a good idea . I was also considering drilling a hole in the center and blowing them to bits but nah... not likely a good idea either .

Anyhow any suggestions are welcome.

Mike

Drill abunch of holes in it with a power drill about 6 inches deep ( half inch bits work good) And fill them with salt ( like ice-melt salt) it will take about half a year but they will rot apart and you can kick them over, you can use fertillizer too but its alittle more pricey

We usually just drive around the trees (it makes it more interesting and fun). If they are small enough, we run over them till they get ripped out. You could try killing them with some tordon or such and they might pull out easier. But tree roots are deep, so cutting a tree off low is about the only real time economical way of getting rid of them. You could always dig it out?

Absolute best way I've found to make quad trails is to use a skid steer. you have to be a bit careful about hills, those have to be hand-done most times. I just worked on some yesterday as a matter of fact. Run into the base of small trees and those danged vibernum bushes, lift the bucket and they pull right out of the ground. A hidden benefit of usingf the skid steer, is you get the trails wide enough that spiders can't reach across them to make webs. Also, you can take narrow 4X4's (jeeps, small toyotas) down them fairly easily.

Put down another vote for fertilizer... ammonia nitrate more exactly , maybe mixed up with a little bit of diesel fuel...

OR , you could just borrow the stump grinder from work Mike ....

I would reccomend throwing a lift kit, some 28 inch tires, and full skid plates on your atv and just drive right over the stumps! ..but maybe thats just me.

Lay a couple of logs down next to it that are about the same size, cover them with dirt and make jumps out of them.

Pulling them up is what we try do, we drill/dig holes into the base depending on how large they are, tie chains to it and up to a couple (2 or more) big utility quads and pull away. Have ample room for the quads to move because when they come up stand by.
