Mini Vacation in Moab
Hey, I was planning a small extended weekend vacation to Moab for some fun and wheeling on the weekend of March 17th and was wondering if anyone on here that's been could join, or point me to someone who could do some trail leading I've never been, and don't want to do the easy to find trails.

When are you planning on going? I ask because if it is easter weekend, then there will be a lot of people down there for easter jeep safari and you won't have any problems finding a good trail or someone that knows where they are going.

I would think that if you ask around in the cycling and off road shops, you should have no problem getting some good info. Most of the locals live it to the max. If you are feeling lucky, you might want to try "Potato Salad Hill". Walk what I think is "Sleeping Lion" near the entrance to Slickrock before you try it. Watched Flight For Life haul 3 people who launched off the side of that one....not pretty. If you are into Mtn. Biking, there is no other place like it in the world. Ya got me yearning for it. I leave for a race at Firebird this week, and now I am thinking I better throw the bike on board, as I can pass right thru there. What the heck...time for a coupla scabs.

Hey Haulin you talkin' bout Firebird Raceway in PHX, AZ? Did you know there is a TDR/DTR meeting in Eloy on the 11th? If so, I'll be there on vacation visiting family until I go up to Moab on the 17th.

My fav trail out there is Poison Spider Mesa, its on the road between Moab and Canyonlands, just south of Potash...
look for a sign that says "dinosour tracks" and an arrow pointing off the road. ( the tracks are in the cliff face right above you BTW). This will take you up the mesa to the "golden crack" and you can follow it down the backside of the mesa and end up about 15 miles outside Moab.
its probably a medium level trail overall with a few "high points" in it. takes about 5-8 hours , depending on your skill level and route.
Other than that, the "Needles" area of Canyon lands is worth the drive over there.
go to the NPS website, and you can download maps of several of the trails in the area, or there is a jeep rental shop in Moab( cant remember the name) that has topo maps of the area with most of the trails marked on them for about $20.
Have fun, that area is a blast....

Nice.We are going over May 11th through the 21st.We have a yamaha rhino that we run the trails in.We are going to spend some time in Marysvale on the Piaute trail too.I don't have my maps in front of me so I can't throw out any trail suggestions but I have always wanted to run White Rim.But they won't allow the rhino on it.Licensed vehicles only.Kyle

I have Charles Wells' book which is very discriptive and accurate, but only lists the main EJS trails and I was wanting to do some of the lesser known trails like Rusty Nail, Helldorado, etc.
