Question How to: drill and tap

We are installing a pre-turbo EGT gauge, and need to learn about drilling and tapping. I bought a tap & die kit, but neither of us (husband or myself) know how to use it. Wierd handled thing with round holder to put weird disc-like gizmos that have various shaped arrangements of holes in them. Then, another handle type thing with two ends and a hole in middle where I presume you put the bit-like threaded thingies.

This is happening at the exhaust manifold. Does anyone have picture accompanied instructions for this process? Or know of where to access such? I do have Geno's Garage instruction sheet for the gauge, and how to use grease on the drill bit and a magnet to get any remaining filings, but the actuall drill and tap process eludes me.

TIA

Here is a good place to look for starters until I can find a better page to refer you to.

Great links!

Start the tap straight or you'll snap it off! If it wanders off to one side back it out and try again. And have patience! It can be a delicate process to get it started.

Be SURE you use the right size drill for the tap your gonna use. Go slow, it will be easy.
