Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap....
Injector line #1 is the location where the loud tapping is coming from... adjusted the valves last nite and it seems it made it worst??? Injector...or maybe a lifter... not much on diesel. I don't even know If my truck has lifters? any help would much appreciated...
Thanks,

Yes our trucks have lifters...don't think that is a problem UNLESS your valve lash is really loose.... you could have an injector issue.
Check your oil level... make sure it isn't rising and doesn't smell of diesel. Try to run some type of injector cleaner to see if it makes it better. My Cummins makes different noises when it's colder outside but if you have verified the sound coming from that particular injector you may have a problem.

Just to add my recent loud injector story...
Yesterday my truck lost top-end power, just only when you mash the throttle. You had to ease down on it to get up to speed. Anyway one of my injectors was very loud and since I was overdue for a oil change I changed the fuel filter too today. It had some oily residue when you run your fingers through the pleats. Also my AFE air filter was pretty plugged, so I cleaned that too. This pretty much eliminated the loud injector but I could still hear it. So investigating further I found one of the injector line support brackets loose. I tighten this bracket up (# 3 injector) it was all back to quiet.
This truck is a 2005, 3500 with 120,000 miles.

No Black smoke..the tapping has been going for a month or longer and kept getting worst then started losing power above 2000 rpm.. So I started puting powerservice in with no help. So I adjusted the valves and the tapping became worst but the power is coming back . I am completely confused but now I am thinking maybe there are 2 issues dirty injectors and valve issues?
Thanks for the comments,

My truck does the same thing since new, dealer said nothing is wrong (go figure), had injectors replaced (no change), valves have been adjusted 3-4 times with no change. Has been really loud and pronounced since my first pull of the camper in 2003, i think it might be a slightly bent/sticking valve because i can hear a puff puff in the exhaust pipe.
Oh, no black/white smoke and pulls my camper like no tomorrow, but does sound like it has a small miss.

Hmm, since you have an 03' you might have an valve seat that has dropped or is loose. Pull the valve cover back off, take all the rockers off and check your valve stem heights. They should all be the same. Exhaust valve seat issue are common on the 03-04 trucks. They corrected the issue with the 04.5 and up trucks. If it has dropped or is loose you may get lucky and not have a beat up piston, broke turbine on the turbo from the seat going through, and a busted up head. Don't drive it.
