Ok, I just hooked up the comp and upgraded to some mach 2.5's. The question is will it be night and day difference with the pump tapped and therfore being worth the risk of killing the vp?

 

I noticed a big difference when I tapped the pump with my comp. I was also worried it would kill the vp, but I decidd to risk it. Ifthe pump was weak I wanted to know so I could get it taken care of. Just my $.02

tap it!! just make sure u got a holley or something else to keep the fuel pressure up there. helps to run some additive too.

 

You'll see about 60hp without it tapped, and about 120hp with it tapped...

 

Tapped is always better...take a keg for instance

I see that a FP guage is missing from your sig. Get one first to check your fuel supply is good and if it is tap it. Get the Stealth cover it is sooo much nicer.
Look at upgrading your fuel system too. You're gonna need it!

i have a question to go with this too. i bought my truck used and it used to have the comp on it and it was tapped. i just bought a used drag comp and havent tapped it cause i cant afford a new VP and dont have my fuel pressure gauge installed yet(sitting on the work bench) but being it was already tapped once it will survie if i tap it agian right????

 

Usually if a pump fails after being tapped it is in hours, or at least the first day or two...

 

so there is a chance that my pump might survive? i was also thinking about getting the big line kit from vulcan too. how much would that help out?

 

There is a chance it will survive. But there is a chance it won't...

The Vulcan kit seems to help... You could install the FP gauge and see what your pressure is. And if it is good go ahead and put the box on.

 

Now that's the perfect example.

 

your only getting the benifits of the timing until you tap that wire. With that being said, monitor your fuel pressure closely. Your engine will demand more fuel than the lift pump can provide on the higher levels.
