This isn't what you want to hear, but get the air conditioner out of the attic!!!
And consider a metal roof. It deflects a lot of heat.

are you guys talking about one of these:

Master Flow Power Roof Mount Vent 1600 CFM'S

that mounts on top?

I was thinking a little traingle fan that mounts near the peak of the roof, on the siding, not on the actual top.
in the vinyl siding, on the wall, not on the roof.

i do NOT want to pull up shingles. I had a leak while back. that was a problem

I,m talking about a simple attic exhaust fan you can get at Lowe's. What type roof do you have (gable or hip usually).

Where does your make up air come from? Outside air or attic air. If it is outside it doesn't matter where the unit is located. I would be suprised if it came from the attic. Insulate the attic rafters.......metal roofs absorb a lot of heat too.

Watching this topic as well. Been noticing the same thing on our A/C (first summer in a "new to us" house). Warm burst of air at startup (especially when it hasn't run for a while), then transitions to cold. All flexible ducting in the attic that I've checked over to make sure there were no leaks. I'll probably double check them now, just not looking forward to that hot attic.

I'll need to check the temps up there, but I was considering adding some power ventilation. Currently, the only vents in the roof are non-power slant vents.

Then you want a gable end fan which will work just fine. Just put a vent on other end of house if you don't have vented soffits.

Depends on the type of roof you have......if it is a hip, then you don't have the option of a gable end mounted fan.
