Hi-Point firearms???
Here here on the 45, got several startegicly placed throughout the castle for ready access.
As far as the low points go, I may trust one over my handy dandy CRKT pocket knife but only as a last resort. You can get a very decent wheel gun for a few bucks more and have something then.

I'm not a fan of Hi Point. If you insist on going cheap I'd buy an inexpensive revolver like a Rossi or something before I'd buy a Hi Point. A cheap revolver is probably going to be more reliable for you than a cheap pistol.
With that being said, my next gun is a Glock 36.

I sure do like hanging out in a good crowd...

My two bits.... cheap is cheap, and I HATE cheap machinery and cheap tools. Lots of good ones out there cheap - many police depts are upgrading their sidearms all the time, find a shop who supplies them and takes the old ones in trade. Tons of nice S&W 9mm semiauto pistols went through at a couple hundred bucks a piece not long ago here.
Other choices would be the now unpopular .38spl service revolvers - often easy and cheap to find if they have four inch barrel and enough cosmetic issues to make them un-collectable! They sure shoot nicely....

If you'll be defending you home and family, buy the best you can afford. If you ever NEED the pistol, you'll need it deperately. When you or yours hang in the balance, you don't want to worry whether or not your means of defense will have a stoppage or malfunction. When it comes to guns, you get what you pay for...
Well ..... mine has been fine. Have 2 friends with them and no troubles either. Just like anything else, there are bound to be some with trouble. Mine has a lifetime warranty to the original owner. Not what I bought it for, but nice to know they will stand behind it. I know, I know a warranty isn't worth much, but it sounds good. Anyhow!
Did you buy your rifle new? If so, give them a call, maybe they will take care of it for you. You will never know if you don't ask. A place I go looking at guns and such has had them repair or replace several at no charge to the second owners as well.

It's not that it will be my only line of defense against an intruder, because right next to the bed is my gun cabinet with an 870 express, .410 single, mini-14, 10/22, 30/30, and a .270. I just thought for that little bit of money I would have a semi-auto pistol. I really have no interest in spending big bucks on something I'll probaly only shoot the day I buy it and then sit on the gun cabinet shelf for 30 years. Plus on their website they offer a no questions asked full lifetime warranty.... If it breaks or doesn't work, they fix or replace for free, forever.

i want to do this with a few cheap but good used revolvers, so no matter where in the house i am, i can get one in my hand to defend myself. i might pick up a high point .45 for some plinking and see how they shoot before i trust my life to one, only 2 guns i trust my lift to, Ruger .357 GP100 and .44 mag Super Blackhawk. where i will be living at in florida the crackheads run through the woods then through our neighborhood from the next one over when the cops chase them, i need something cheap for a little moving target practice.

Isn't it easier to just keep one on you at all time?
