Hemi, Demi, Semi . . .

So what is a "hemi" engine anyway. Can a Diesel be hemi?

A Hemi is a engine with a hemispherical combustion chamber. When the piston is at TDC the valves form a half circle.
Yes a diesel could be a hemi.

The dish in our pistons is a squooshed hemisphere, so I think we DO have Hemis. OK, maybe semi-Hemis. On the gassers it was done on the cylinder head in order to get straighter ports without making the engine taller, though I think on the new Hemi it's just for marketing. A wedge shaped chamber is more efficient combustion wise.
