Yeah, funny how all the castles seem to grow beer gardens. We use pick areas to ride mountain bikes and go castle hunting. Always ended up sucking down beer and brats.

Alpine,
I can also say "Been there - done that". That area looks so much like Brenner Pass. We loved it there. From '88 to '92, we were stationed in Naples, Italy, and would go up to Innsbruck, Salzberg, Garmisch and all around that area. Wife took a photo of Brenner Pass at the gas station. When we got back home, my wife gave the photo to a Philippine lady back in our Naples neighborhood who turned that 4" x 6" photo into a 2' x 3' oil painting (she left out the ribbon of highway that was in the photo). Such a beautiful painting. It's hanging above our fireplace.
Thanks for the memories.

Redleg: It seems that you have been stationed in Germany- did you ever go to Austria?

Went up the Eagles nest a couple times (Berchtesgaden), and could see Salzburg. Just had military ID, needed a passport to cross hte border. Plus, too much to see with too little time.

Went camping in Garmisch one weekend, with a couple mountain bike, buddies. Entered a military sponsored race. It was open to the public, and had a huge turn-out. Love the ALps. Whole different world than the rest of Europe.

Garmisch is a beautiful area,,,spent a few days there and took a lift to the top of the Zugspitz. It was amazing, 70 degrees at the base and snowing up at the peak. Got some really good shots of the ice tunnel.
