If you are refering to the tire that is on the truck in the picture, that's not the spare. That's the tire that failed and seperated. The case is still holding air but the tread seperated , spun around and destroyed the box etc.
I just got a fax this morning from Goodyear, the had a release for me to sign saying they weren't admitting liabillity
but would cut me a check for the lowest of the two estimates I sent in and the price of one tire. about $4,100.00So I guess I will just take it and go get the thing fixed atleast it will be done with then.
We had a similar issue with our 5er tire, G159's, G rating, I beleive. They paid all but $200 on replacing all the tires with a new RST tire. they paid the deductilbe on the insurance, which the total bill was about $4k. Good Year seems to take good care of it's customers, a real plus in this day & age.
I have Wrangler AP tires on mine, about 20k, they are doing well.
We used to have a motor home with 19.5 wheels& Tires. I had heard that Michelin had some real issues with some batches of those tires. Further, I beleive it was load range F that was main stream and they made a lesser rated tire(D?), whch caused problems. At least in that size & larger Bidgestone was the gold standard.
Any of them can go at any time and cause lots of damage. Goodyear stands behind it's products & makes good when they go South. Perhaps Michelin does as well. I do not know that other manufactureres wil treat you as well. In my book, goodyear is always worth a look becase they do take care of their customers when this happens.

Got the cheque this aft and deposited it right away, absolving Goodyear of further repsonibillity.
They paid for the lowest quote to repair the damage plus one tire.
Atleast they did something??? I had sort of hoped they'd maybe put a set of tires on the truck, atleast then they know you are still using a Goodyear product and I obviously don't feel I can trust the other three tires on the truck either, they are getting worn though, I have put a lot miles on since the incident. Of course I did take two days off work to take the truck around and get quotes on the dammage, messed up atleast one whole day of my holliday when this all happened etc.
I'm not sure how to feel about it, pleased or dissapointed???????? And of course I will be with out the truck entirely for several days when the repairs are made. With no rental or whatever.
However, that's what happened.

It sucks when stuff like this happens. I'm finally getting my $500 deductible back from when I got rearended by the drunk driver in October. I put some cash in my pocket by doing a lot of the mechanical work myself, but if I had to do it over again - I wouldn't! The little money I came out ahead wasn't worth all the loss of time and extra expenses, not to mention being without the truck for a month! Good luck with the repairs and hopefully you won't have to go through this again.
