Goodyear Tire failure

Hi all. I just got bacvk from a 6,000 mile last minute spur of the momment/ emergency trip.

Was all fine and dandy except just on the North Side of the border crossing north of Minot ND I was cruising down a secondary highway at a fair rate of speed when all of a sudden there was one horrible banging and thumping going on and the truck started to skid. Oh yeah, and I'd been driving 26 hours straight

I managed to more or less keep control, got everything stopped and found that the left rear tire had seperated and the tread had done an incredible amount of dammage to my truck.

Tire shrapnel spread for 1/2 mile. Box severly dammaged from filler cap down and wheel well backed, fibreglass rear valiance and bumber cracked, stainless trim ring and mud flap gone, wheel well liner gone.

Tire case was still holding air, no punctures, no leaks.

Not a fun day at all. I picked all the shrapnel up off the road, put my spare on and continued on my way.

Dropped the tire off at a goodyear dealer, was sent to Dayton OH for inspection, day after I got home there was a letter from them saying to send 2 estimates in for the dammage etc.

The dammage quotes are in the $4,000 range.

Anyone ever had this happen??? My pretty truck isn't so pretty right now. I could have thrown up seeing that truck hammered in like that.

Will Goodyear cut me a cheque for my truck?

I'll try to post pics.

If they asked for estimates, it sounds like they are willing to fix the damage.

Make sure your estimates cover everything possible. Because once you cash a check from them it usually releases them after that point...ie...release of liability. I would be concerned with the other tires on the truck. Good luck and post up when it all gets worked out.

Its amazing how bad those tire chunks can mess up your ENTIRE paint job.
Don't forget to include the estimate for cleaning the interior upholestry and your shorts after that little joyride.

Goodyear treated me very fair after blowing a tire on our fiver. It was determined the inflation was correct (during usage) and there was no outside damage to the tire. They paid the whole repair bill plus replaced the one tire. $2600 plus the tire. I was very impressed with the professional manner they handled it.

I remember your story bob. I hope my experience is as positive. How old was the tire in question in your case?

My case was still holding air, pressure was normal.

Well, faxed the estimates for the dammage away today. Time will tell if they will honour my claim or not.

Goodyear What??

Wranglers??

If so, GS-A's or SR-A's??

How many miles on tires when this happened??

Just wondering.................

For mine and others safety.

Original set of Wrangler SR-A's that came on my truck lasted 120,000 miles. Still had plenty of tread left. So much tread left that a used tire dealer gave me 150 bucks for them(all 6) when I bought new tires a couple of weeks ago. Had such good luck with these Goodyears that I bought exactly what came on the truck when I bought it new.

All Help Helps, know what I mean!

(BTW - My truck is for sale, hint hint! Subliminal Advertising!)

I had a Goodyear tire do the same thing on my fiver. Goodyear paid for all the damage, replaced all five tires at no cost. I was happy with their customer service. Sounds like they are planning on treating you the same way. Good Luck!!!

I was hoping to see you had a less eventful trip than that..

Sounds like you are gonna make out fine on this deal.. Wow, I never knew they would do anything about such damage..

Good Luck..

I just uploaded a pic I took at the site where it happened.

I got a message from Goodyear fridar that they needed to fax me a form to sign but they were closed by the time I could call them back. Hopefully I'll know more monday as to what they will do about this.

Go check out the pic, just go to my gallery.
