Good solenoid for plow pump?
Good solenoid for plow pump?
Well we finally got some good snow up here, first time in 2 years we had more then a few inches. Battling the flu so I couldn't keep up with the blizzard last night, had to try and hit 4' snow drifts today. Got stuck a bunch. Should have ordered the chains like I wanted. Snowblower broke twice, cant get parts to really fix it beyond tie wire till monday. So I'm not having a good day.
At least I got my own driveway mostly cleared, but clearing my neighbors drive the solenoid on the plow took a dump. Of course all the good parts places are closed till monday, but I need to get something to work for tomorrow. Whats a good high amp solenoid that can carry the current of the hydro pump? I'm thinking an old Ford starter solenoid like this one because I can get it at NAPA, should be open tomorrow.
Or is there a better option from Tractor supply or something? Any helps appreciated. I've only got 3 other driveways to do tommorrow, but they have to be done by Monday.
EDIT- on a side note what kind of place sells tire chains on a Sunday if anyone knows? I was thinking sears or something. Gonna need them if there's any left, cause one driveway is pretty dang steep backing out.

Gorms,
Sorry about your snow woes. These guys might be your best bet for help with the plow solenoid.

As for the chains, I imagine it is going to take someone with knowledge of local NE USA retailers to help you. I got mine at Princess Auto but they are a western Canada outfit so they wont help you much. The chains I have are sure a sweet setup. They have a ratcheting mechanism attached to steel rope that self tightens the chains as you drive. You put them on loose with the ratchet locked, release the lock and a recoil spring tightens them fairly well and then as you drive, they tighten. The installation instructions that come with them are on a rubber sheet so that you can set it down in the snow to read as you put them on. Smart idea!!
Good luck.

As long as someone near you has one and you have the cable to get from it to the motor, I don't see why it couldn't work. If you look under "emergency vehicle relays" they have some rated at 200 amps. I was just there, looking for some relays to fix a bale bed that's wired stupid.

For what its worth, I got a good deal on chains for my Dodge at the Walmart in Reno.
Not only were they the best deal but these were even made in the USA

Ok found one for cheap ($10) and will get a better one, for a lift gate or something, this week. Did manage to fix all the battery connections while I was there, starter turns over much faster and plow pump moves quicker too.
Now here's my rant, got the blade going again around 10:30 this morning, went to do a driveway and burst the lift cylinder line within 10 seconds (after first swipe) and headed home. No problem I think, get snow blower while I have the time and finish up. Brakes on truck go out going down hill heading home, able to stop before hitting some dumb dumb pulling out of his driveway without looking/stopping by hitting the embankment. Fixed that at home-rubber front line that I happened to have!- fixed snowblower, fixed snowblower again, unclogged snowblower every 3 minutes, tire on the blower went flat and fell off the bead, fixed that, then went to get some beer and go home. I must have really p'd someone important off this week.

Gorms - at this point you need to admit that you have messed up your karma. We all have those days. For today, you need to stop doing anything before things get worse. Heck, I am almost afraid to respond to you for fear that I my computer gets a virus or something.
Put your feet up, have some good food, maybe a drink or two and hit the rack.
