This is some good reading. If you have foxes hanging about they are there because there is a food source. I'm pretty sure they will eat cat food if you have any outside.
Are you sure they are foxes and not racoons? They make a lot of crazy sounds during springtime when playing/mating etc. 'Coons will also eat domestic cats when the opp arises. Get a hi-powered spotlight and see if you can light them up to i.d. If they are foxes you need to wait till the season is open. If they are Racoons, they might not have a season. Check out your local game laws.

I do have cat food outside, it's in the garage though. Usualy my older male & female German Shepard hang out in there so I don't think the Fox would be tempted to eat it there.

And im pretty sure it is a Fox, if it is a Racoon im moving out of this state because that sucker is one massive Racoon. I seen a reddish/ornagish tent to it's fur so I know it's a Fox.

I didn't hear it last nite. Maybe it was just checking out the house the other nite and moved on it's way. The backside of our property butts up to our neighbors property which is a little over 40 acres. So im sure the Fox(s) just don't reside on our land. If those Fox's get careless and wonder into our neighbors property where the Mules are im sure I won't see it again.

I doubt those fox will bother anything around your place, especially with the adult dogs around.
They may even be protected/endangered species.
Many are protected here in California.

Out here in SoCal, CalTrans had to stop construction on the 55 Freeway extension because a couple of foxes were raising kits in a burrow in the right-of-way. The foxes were brazen and had been living in a very suburban setting, within 75 feet of houses and stores.

Now I'm no fox expert, and please don't take this as an insult to you, but your above post seems to indicate you are not certain its a fox. I have never heard of a fox making a lot of noise, so I am wondering of what you are seeing/hearing is a coyote? Most people think a coyote weights 75 pounds and huge. Fact is most are less that 50 pounds, their just all hair.

Just thought I would throw it out there since it seems they would be more likely to keep you awake, but again, I'm not a fox expert......

you know, I didnt even think that coyotes were in MN (I am not from the midwest, only been here 3 years) but the DNR pages says they are pretty abundant, learn something new everyday!

Hey buddy, no offense taken. I appreciate everyone chimming in here.

But im pretty sure what I saw was a Fox. Infact it looked just like this(the one I saw looked a tad bit bigger).

Im just glad it isn't a Timberwolf. Those are MASSIVE wolves. You ever see a couple of them in a pack? They do damage. The all Black ones look mean as hell.

Head down to Wally World and get some Coyote Urine, sprinkle it around your property and especially where you have been seeing the fox. and down wind of your house if possible,. Problem solved .. But DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR HANDS !!!!!!

If it was me, I'd use this... That way I don't wake the kids up...

Just be glad it isn't a mountain lion sitting there watching from a distance. Surprisingly, there have been a number of them spotted within a few miles of our house in the past year...

You can buy a live trap for around $50. I bait my large one with whole eggs. Works well on fox, coon, and possum. If you don`t want to feed`m a lead pill, be sure to carry them over 50 miles from home. With fuel prices being what they are, feed the pill and play dumb. Mum`s the word. You have a right to protect your cats, etc.

Skunks too. Have a large old blanket that you can carry and hide behind, sneak up and cover skunk in cage. Hope for the best. Pick up trap and put in water trough.
I know people who trapped racoons, drove them the 50 miles, (their wives made them) and they were back in couple days. How did they know they were the same racoons?
They spray painted their tails orange.
You can teach them to swim too, it's a lot less messy.
