Lookin at 66 in a couple of months. Two back operations in the forties, heart care for a few years. Got tired of sitting around broke and falling apart. Went back to work and will work till I can't get a medical card for the cdl. Working keeps me going with arthuritis in my knees and bad circulation, you know, numb feet, can't walk much, have to push myself.

I told the kids..... I pass on, rent a big backhoe, dig a big hole, push me and my Dodge in and cover it up. If the Egyptions were right, I will be ready

You know this is a very interesting subject to which I had a small epiphany the other day: I realized the difference between middle aged folks and old folks.

Me: I'm 38 going on 60. I have arthritis, gout, diabetes (Insulin dependent), high cholesterol and way too much grey hair. With too much money and too many medications it is all under good control. So I hope to make it to retirement to spend all those 401K bucks I've been puttin' away for so long.

I'm not 18 any more, and feel it like any other guy if I do too much. I also complain like a 6-yr old girl about it to my wife.

So I thought back to when my parents were my age, they complained too. Now, even though everything is worse for them, they don't complain, at all

So I asked them, isn't it worse now? "Of course" they say, but as several of the >50 crowd on here have said, they are grateful to be kickin' and all the complaining didn't do any good.

So the epiphany is: if you're still complaining, your still middle aged, when you stop, you know you've gone over the hill

I got a tear in my labrum repaired one week ago and today I turned 48. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself at the beginning of this thread as the pain meds aren't doing much but after reading others woes I believe I'll go out and hike a few miles. I guess things can always be worse. I have tried to live a clean life but also think that it is better to burn out than it is to rust. (hard physical work is what has done it for me) A friend of mine has an Irish grandmother who always says what are you complaining about; alot of people don't get the opportunity to grow old. Did you see where Gail Devers just set a new world record in the hurdles? She did this at 40 years of age and just 19 months after giving birth. She says tht 40 is the new 20. The baseball great Satchel Page said,"how old would be if you didn't know how old you are"? I am hoping to live long enough to collect retirement benefits. Ever notice how many around you work too long afraid that their benefits won't carry them and then they die just a couple of months or years into retirement?

Im gonna do just like my great-grand father. Im gonna give up on life when I cant enjoy it enough to complain about it.
Hopefully, I will be close to the same age. 105. He gave up mostly because he couldn't see the squirrels to shoot them anymore. He could still get around the woods, he could still hear the little buggers scampering around, he just couldn't see them.

Wait till you hear about the downhill run from your Proctologist. You will NOT be in a "position" to argue.

Well boys, Im going to turn 65 in a cuppla months and just hate the thoughts of it but nothing I can do about it. Time marches on. A lot of people havent been so lucky. Been blessed with good health, no medicnes and dont go to any doctors. Things get a little stiff once in a while but like the rest of you guys thats to be expected I guess. Quit working for a trucking company in 93 and have a small stable of race horses now so lots of outside weather and fresh air. If you find something you love doing thats what keeps you young......Besides at this age I have to be nice to people because I cant fight and cant run fast any more either...............
