jj3500....

35 Horses is not usually in a small garden tractor. Unless you put a motorcycle engine in it or something!!!

35 horses are in utility tractors. And in my opinion here is what you need.

Kubota 3130, 3430, or 3830. (31 hp, 34 hp, or 38 hp)
Kubota 723 Loader
Kubota Backhoe (not 3 point hitch mounted! Get the other one)

If you are using a front end loader you need 4WD. The tractor is pretty much useless with out it.

Just ask if you have more questions........

jj3500 give us more info about how you want to use this tractor so we can give more advise. As mentioned at 35 horse you have gone past the garden and sub cuts. you are in a full frame tractor. there is Massey Ferguson, Kioti, Kubota,New Holland,Case, Branson,Yanmar and a host of others. I have a Massey myself and it takes care of my yard and garden needs. with thew 4wd it takes care of the winter chores as well.

I have a 2002 JD 4410, 35 hp, 4x4, with front loader. Love this tractor! It will handle a 6' bush hog with ease. Tractor, loader, and finish mower was about 20k, but I got 6k trade in on my old tractor. A John Deere is like a cummins. Take care ot it and it will be around for a looooong time. The Kobota I traded in was a good one, it was just under-powered. When I went shopping, I looked @ Kubota but around here they cost as much as a JD.

KIOTI (cheaper than Kubota but all the same parts, just no frilly amenities and no warranty). Nortrac. and alot of other names for those funky little tractors from Japan.Look for them in Northern Equipment.

i recently moved into a newly built house on seven acres. there is not a blade of grass on it. mind you, i only want a really nice lawn on two of those acres. the rest of it i would let grow somewhat.

with that being said, i would want this tractor to do just about anything i could need it to do with the acreage. clearing out small trees, grading out areas, moving soil, gravel and sorts. digging trenches for drains, bushes. i would want to be able to push a brush hog too in the outer portions of the yard.

i guess this is just the normal grind of a personal tractor?

I use a 1959 Ford 871 40 horsepower that I picked up at a farm auction for under a grand. Put about $300 in parts and repairs and its good to go.
I agree with the guys who recommend 4WD, but you can get by w/o it if ya need to. Depends on if your going to be working in the grass in wet or snowy weather.
If you PM me I can give you a list of links to tractor sites that have a lot of good info.
Be very carefull of " gray market " tractors like Kioti or Yamana. They are general good tractors, but were built for overseas and do not have many of the safety features that domestic tractors have. I know a couple guys who have them and have diffficulty finding parts locally. When youre broke down in the feild and have to wait on parts, it is a real PITA. ALso by the time you pay shiping costs, ect. , you can often pay as much as if you bought a new one locally.
Try this site as a good place to help determine what size tractor you need:

got kubota?

Take a look at the Grand L 30 Series Tractors by Kubota like I mentioned above. Kubota is the Toyota of tractors. And I don't say that lightly. The 30 series are very nice tractors and are built with some "full size" tractor features. You only proably need the 3130. cost around $12,800.00 if you deal right. And it is built tough as nails.

I truly believe Kubota makes the best under 50 hp tractors. Yes even better than Deere. I like Deere tractor above 50 hp. There are many out there in tractor land that support this opinion and for good reason. Bob Cat uses Kubota engines in there equipment. So that says alot right there.
