Does anyone know if Hastings brand filters are ok to use with the Cummins diesel engine? Thanks--Ray

Talking

Howdy, Fellow web foot, glad to see your post. I did some research on Hastings oil filters. The hastings co. said that the filters they make have no neopreme in their filters. I have been using them in the last couple of oil changes and they seem to work out ok. I guess the neopreme {sp} if it was to be in the filter would break off and find its way into the nozzles and adventually plug them up.
I see your a vet too. Like they say on the bumper sticker:
"If you like your freedom thank a Vet"
Have a great Dodge Day!--------Ray

You might want to look at TSB 09-004-01.

To the best of my knowledge Hasting filters are made by WIX (Hayes-Dana) and are the same as the standard WIX line except of course the part # and the price..
I used Hastings filters on all my vehicles for about 20 years and never had a problem. This included a very high revving strong 340. Then they discontinued the line in Canada.

I used them a few times with no trouble. Then the interesting thing is, I got 3 filters on sale . I used 2 on my 2000 and 1 on my 1997. I found Fleetguard's for the same price and started using them. When I put the Fleetguard's on, I noticed an increase of about 5-8 psi oil pressure on both trucks. After reading all of the posts here I think I'll stick to the Fleetguard's.
If you're having trouble finding them, you can get them at Geno's or almost any International, Kenworth, etc. dealer for a good price. They carry the oil, fuel and air filters.

Cool

Thanks to you guys for the posts. I found out that the Hastings filters are ok. A tech from Hastings got ahold of me and said that Baldwin was the parent company of Hasting and that the test they run on filters is quit complete. No neopreme on the filters insides at all thats what is suppose to break up and cause nozzle problems. The filters are not hard to find around here I will probably stick with them as I have had no indications of any malfunctions of oil pressure or anything else.--Thanks again--Ray

I tried to buy Fleetgaurd filters from the local Freightliner/WesternStar/Sterling/Unimog dealer, and was told by the service manager that they did not recomend Fleetgaurd for any engine. Was told to either use a Luberfiner or Wix. Have run all Wix filters for the past 20K miles with no problems.

Cut apart the last filter at my 5K change interval, and the filter material still looked really good.
