Fram Air Filters....
Fram Air Filters....
Well I always heard about the factory air filter style Fram filters collapsing. Never thought Id see it. But, tonight while salting roads around the area in our F-450 Dump truck with the 7.3 Power Stroke, I mashed her to the wood to get onto the highway and I heard a thud from under the hood. Got outta the throttle. It still seemed to run fine but it seemed like it lost about 30% of its power, and was blowing black smoke. First thing that came to mind was a boost tube boot poped off.. Checked those, all are good. Pulled the fuel filter out, looked like new. Looked at the air restriction gauge on the air box. Sure enough it was all of the way up.. Pulled the top of the air box off and there layed the disaster. It buckled the filter, caved the metal screening in, and the glue on the bottom was junk to say the least, not to mention the rubber/foam edging on it was tore off and ready to be eaten by the turbo. Looked down into the turbo and it looked fine,no damage. (Thank God) The filter was intalled new at the last service. (1900 miles ago) Looks like I will be getting NOTHING but WIX or Fleetgaurd now..
Going to take a few pics later and post em. I might also send an email to Fram, and tell them about how great their filters are...
