while you bring up love often, and love is a very powerfull emotion, how do you know or not know that other animals feel the same as we do? because they cannot express their emotions with a language that you might understand doesn't mean that they don't feel the same emotion that we feel.

as far as the mother cat is concerned... i believe she is doing it out of love for her offspring. the same feeling you would have for your offspring and mine for that matter. you could say that i would be doing it just to perserve my gene pool but it would really be out of love. i would sacriface my life for the life of my daughter. just as i figure the cat is doing the same for her offspring. maybe we are just looking at it from two different angles but coming up with pretty much the same answer?
