We had a Shindaiwa weed-eater, it was a pretty good machine. Nothing like the old JD one my uncle won as an open-house door prize, though. He had it tweaked a little bit. Rated at 6200 RPM but it turned a little faster. Hired help ran it with 50:1 mix and killed it though.
It had a clutch in the drive line. If grass started to wrap around the head you could play with the throttle and it would clear itself. Others would just stall.
