ATS Vp44. Suitable for SVO?
ATS Vp44. Suitable for SVO?
When I bought my 98.5 24v it came with a ATS "Racing VP44". Anybody know if this pump will run heated SVO well? It also has ATS injectors.. Cant remember what the HP was on the injectors but with the computer off on the dyno I think we are doing 280 HP? Something like that.. I just remember about 40-50 hp above stock I think is what it was..
Anyway.. I also have a FASS (I know they make one for SVO.. mine is just the one with a heater and water remover and fuel filter).
Any thoughts?

I ran WVO for about 10,000 miles. The problem was I could not keep pressure on the vp44. It did last 10,000 miles but did die, I am not sure if it was the WVO or if the pump was just going to go anyway. On Grease car they do not recomend WVO with the VP44, but I think that may be mainly from my experience. As far as injectors or any other enhancments go, it is all good, people will tell you all kinds of stuf but don't really know first hand. I towed a 5 ton trailer to Canada on WVO with no problem and lots of power, but not a lot of pressure on the VP44. Keep me posted, I would love to see if you make out better then me.
By the way after 10,000 miles my injectors were as clean as new, and so were the inside of the cylinders.

The issue I have heard with the vp engines, as well as a lot of other computerized diesels is that the injector tips on the multi orifice injectors (6+ vs 2) tend to coke up more readily than the older two port tips. I really don't see why the wvo would be an issue for a vp44 as long as you can keep the pressure on. The low pressure will ruin the diaphragm in the vp, as well as goof up a little housing that a pusher piston rides in.
The lubricity is obviously fantastic, and as long as it's properly heated, your pressure stays a few digits in the positive, I would note that pulling the injectors is not to terribly big of a job.
I don't run the stuff, though, this is just what I have read. Mine seems fine on the thousands of gallons of biodiesel I have run in it though!
