Sound fishy?

I responded to a TDR classified ad selling performance parts. They guy selling the parts abruptly stopped resonding via e-mail as soon as I mentioned COD delivery. He wanted me to send him a money order / certified check before sending the part. I didn't feel comfortable with that, so I asked if he would send COD. Am I missing something? Isn't COD the best way to protect both parties?

I don't know if I over thinking this thing or not, but it has made me wonder.

I always like to pay with Paypal if possible because you pay with your Credit card and so you are protected. I had a problem once, submitted a claim and my money was returned. Very simple process.

Not to sure about buying from someone personally. However, over the past year I've purchased quite alot of stuff over the internet from big businesses like JC Whitney and Summit to smaller car audio wholesale businesses and haven't once been able to pay via COD (although if given the oppourtunity I probably would)

Doesn't seem like this is an option anymore

I agree with Wilson though, if possible I like paying with PayPal.

Maybe one of the vendors can tell you more about payment options

If buying (or selling for that matter) from an individual, Paypal is the way to go.

If buying from a company then choose the credit card option, unless they offer paypal.

I'd feel uncomfortable sending cash/check with no recourse if the other party absconds(?) with your funds.

I sold my leveling kit to a member here, previously had never dealt with paypal.

Now that I have, I am quite comfortable using it as a method of funds transfer.

Was kind of a pain getting set up with Paypal originally, but now that I am, I have no worries about it.

Check out . www.paypalsucks.com
Worst thing you can use. Unless you are the seller. I got scammed for almost a thousand bucks. I had to sue this guy (you should have seen the look on his face when I handed him the papers in person at his door.) He was broke and I only got 500.
I use escrow now. Works like a charm and is guaranteed you won't get screwed. If he dropped the emails after you wanted COD he might be hiding something. Best of luck.

If you don't feel comfortable then don't deal with the guy. I for one have sold many items to people on this forum and I don't use paypal because I too saw the paypalsucks website. Maybe people just trusted me because they saw I was a senior member. I told them I needed the money up front and I also gave them my home and work numbers and addresses to put them at ease. All my items were sold with only happy customers.

Too bad everybody isn't as honest. I know a kid who was about 17 years old with a fairly well off father who owns a commuter van service. The kid drove a Mazda rice rocket and he really wanted some 20" rims for it. He found a guy in Florida selling exactly what he wanted for $1200.00. He was telling me about this and I told him that if it were me, I'd pack my stuff up and take a weekend trip down to pick them up in person. Well, he didn't take my advice and to make a long story short, he's out $1200.00, the phone in Fla is disconnected, and the guy is nowhere to be found...

end result... No deal.

I have been using COD as a seller and a buyer. COD costs a bit more but it is worth every penny. COD is the best way to do business. You go to the post office fill out the little form, check the box of prefered payment, done. The person must pay the delivery person according to what is checked and both the delivery person and yourself must sign, before you can get your hands on the package. This only applys to doing business with private individuals of course.

If your dealing with a business than a credit card is the best way.

back to the story... I wrote the guy back explaining the COD process, he wrote; "I do not do COD. If that prevents a sale between us. So be it. Thanks for the interest."

If this guy isn't smart enough to understand why I won't just send him a money order / cashier check he will never get my business.

No matter how good a deal you think something might be, it will cost you three fold unless you protect yourself.

I hope whomever does do business with this guy doesn't get burnt.

thanks for the replys everyone.

Don't have a clue what you're talking about, but I think MOST people won't do COD.
