electric winch shootout...

Thought this was an interesting article on electric winches. 7 manufacturers of electric winches were put head to head in a test. Only three survived....

Who the heck is Chicago Electric???

Harbor Freight Tools carries Chicago Electric brand products. Usually super cheap.

probably not....

But even if they aren't large enough, their still 9000 lbs of pull more than the guy stuck in the muck with out one.
With a little thought and the right equipment it is easy to turn that 9000 lbs into 18000 lbs or even 27000 lbs if there was enough cable....

I think people underestimate the power of these winches, I know i did till I watched brother winched a concrete truck with 10 yds of concrete on it up to his house to poor the footings and pulled him back out when done with the warn 12000 on the front of his 3/4 ton long bed. Only time it stalled was when guy in the concrete truck quit helping at all. Dad had already gone to get a d6 cat dozer to pull him out and we tried the winch just to see what it would do since it came on his truck and he hadnt used it much. Im still not sure who was in more shock the truck driver or us. Needless to say word made it back to there shop pretty fast because the next driver was talking about his boss had a f350 and said no way a dodge pulled out a cement truck so we just laughed and went on. Def was at max on the winch though cause you can tell the cable is stretched now and I def wouldnt do that every day on one that size. Made me wonder what a 16.5 was capable of though.

Chicago Electric is a Chinese knockoff sold by Harbor Freight. It's name is a marketing ploy to get you to think it's the familiar, quality Chicago Pneumatic at first glance.
Warn is #1 with winches....period. I'd like to see how the Ramsey would have held up if the solenoid didn't stick. As much as I'd like a Warn 16.5ti, I couldn't afford one. I went with a Ramsey REP9.5e (MADE IN USA) and it was $479 legitimate retail from a local 4x4 shop.

I have a warn 12K on mine.

Haven't used it since I put it on.

If you don't have it, you'll need it, if you do, you won't.
