I need to get another dsl modem, ( bellsouth) was wondering will any modem work or do I have to get one from bellsouth?

Bummer! I just threw away a fujitsu dsl modem about a week ago. I may still have an extra westell sitting around someplace. If I find it I can send it to you. The westell does a usb connection or ethernet.

 

I have to install a DSL modem later today for my womans daughter and from reading about them on the SBC website there appears to be a problem with DSL and Windows XP and they have a list of modems that will work and there are several that will not so you may want to have a look if this applies to you.
It seems that the older operating systems don't have a problem but XP can only work with certain ones.

I'm running a Westell 2200 and installed in front of a router it works fine with XP, W2K and (ahem) W98.

Verizon is digging the ground up for FIOS right now in the neighborhood. When its up and running, you could have this modem.

 

I agree about the cable service..........I have *** and I just ran a speedtest which returned 3598kbs and yesterday I was 38** something.........it is amazing.
It remains to be seen what the DSL will do in her apartment,I am curious. Ron
