DSL or Cable Modem??
Re:DSL or Cable Modem??
Hoss,
Just some fyi, it took some time (~3 weeks) for me to get my DSL up and running. I ordered it through MSN (ugh). I have SouthWestern Bell as my phone provider. MSN had to put in a request to SWB to make the connection at my house for the DSL, it took SWB a while to get to my house and do that. When MSN got the OK from SWB, they then shipped my modem, filters etc. Since it sounds like you are getting everything from the same provider, this might not be an issue for you.

Yes...if I go with DSL I'll go with Verizon...who is also my phone service provider. I actually thought you HAD to go with your phone service provider, but if not, I'll probably use them anyway just to keep things simple.
Re:DSL or Cable Modem??
I would go with them. MSN runs about $54/mo after taxes. I bought something at BestBuy and got $200 off if I went with MSN (had to sign a 2 year deal -blah). Started out on their dial-up but upgraded to the DSL. Been happy with the service but the price is a bit more then I would like, especially since I have seen better deals (after I signed for 24 months of course). When my contract with MSN is done (<year), I will be shopping around for a better price (plus, I am not a big fan of MS in general).
Re:DSL or Cable Modem??
Since it sounds like you are upgrading, does this mean we will all be subjected to your brand of wit and humor (dare I say sarcasm) at even faster speeds?
Uh, on second thought, dial-up is great.

Hate to say this but it will probably take three weeks for him to get his DSL also...

They CLAIM it takes 4-5 business days. Only one way to find out though. Either way, I'm not in a big hurry.

Re:DSL or Cable Modem??
Just made the plunge and ordered DSL through Verizon. They say my "Service Ready Date" is 9/3/03 and my self install kit is supposed to arrive within 5 business days. I guess we'll see... :

Re:DSL or Cable Modem??
Went to the DSLreports and did a quick test :

Granted its not "upto 10Mbps" liek I have seen downloading from premium newsgroups but 5.5Mbs is alright............
$35.99 a month.
