Don't take it for granted

Well, lost another family member last week. My cousin, 44 years old, went to the hospital feeling ill. His organs just started shutting down one at a time for no apparent reason. Doctor's couldn't determine why. Had access to the best medical care in the country. Wifes mother passed away three weeks ago from cancer, 68 years old.

Makes one wonder about all the little things we have and do automatically. Like both feet hitting the floor in the morning still breathing. Going to the bathroom and flicking the switch and having the light come on. Turning the faucet and having hot water come out to take a good shower. Eating breakfast while watching the news. Listening to those chrome stacks purr all the way to work this morning. Knowing that I have to go for groceries this evening and knowing that the grocery store will be filled to the point of bursting with everything I need. Knowing that my country is safe thanks to all the people in our great military who were up all night making sure as well as the ones in the past that got us to where we are today.

Now, one could say "I live in the United States and pay taxes so I deserve this". That may not necessarily be the case. If you watch the news on a regular basis, you'll note that not everyone has it as well as we do both here and abroad. Some people don't even have homes let alone running water and electricity. Some people went out to have a good time the other night and a bomb blew up in their laps. Some people went to work one morning and their buildings were attacked and fell to the ground. I wonder if those people ever thought that would happen. They were probably thinking what they were going to do tomorrow or what they were going to do this evening when they got off work.

I guess to keep this short I am just saying that if you don't already, take time to look around and see what you have and be thankful for and appreciate it. Life gets so busy sometimes, I believe we forget how good we do have it. If you think you've got it bad, look around. Someone somewhere has it worse.

Hope this makes sense and doesn't upset anyone, not intended to do that. DO someone a favor today, no matter how small.

Catch ya'll later.

Thanks DieselDude,

Good perspective. I'm also sorry for the death of your cousin and I'm sure each of us here in DTR-Land understands your sorrow.

It seems this is only supposed to happen to "the other guy", but to you, I'm "the other guy", and to me, someone else is. We all get to go through it and, for the most part, the only word that fits is, it "Sucks".

We're with you, guy.

Re:Don't take it for granted

Condolences from the North DD4x4. During lifes travels you sometimes feel that you are invinceable, and I guess in some respects we are. Then someone close to us leaves use and we are brought back down to earth, to realise how fragile life really is. I've lost two brothers and a sister, plus numerous family relatives like my three cousins just three weeks ago in a care accident. Plus my parents. I like to believe it's the big guy upstairs that decides it's time for you to come home. It's about the only reasoning I'v ever come up with that kind of gives an answer as to why someone dear has to leave us. They've gone to a better place where there is no suffering of any kind. Take things one day at a time, and be thankful for everyday you get. Once in awhile you have to stop, look around you, and smell the roses.

Sincerly Butch
