Dock and bridge build
This pic shows how much a butt joint has contracted by 7pm this evening, when the temps have gone down to in the mid 70’s. At 12 noon when in the low 90’s the gap will close
Planks going down. My poor son is getting upset, as I stress to him the importance of getting a rhythm down, the series of steps involved, lining up the screws, and all the while also telling him it’s downhill from here on out, lol!
Picture framing of the bridge is completed. Now the laying of the planks to come
Took 2.5 hours to get 7 planks down. This ended up in a lesson to my son on tape measurement reading- to the 16th, and to eye the tape straight on, and not sight from an angle. Yes, he was getting frustrated, but we gotta teach these kids today to strive for perfection!
He won’t let me put 1 screw on the darn thing! So, we work till the heat of the day, what he does is screw off the decking to the mid joists then after we get about 20 planks down, he falls back and screws off the ends of each plank. I offer to assist him, as by the time we get that many planks down it’s really hot. He does not want the help. Tells me to start packing up! Who died and left him boss, huh?
