Both of my two Heelers are spoiled to the max. They sleep in bed with us, go everywhere with us, stay in the house all year long, DONT eat off the plates, but they do get as much treats and scraps as they want. One is 16, the other is 5. I would rather my dog live till he's 7 and be spoiled as heck than live till 11 and not so spoiled. There both heathy as can be. They are very clean dogs. Dont drool, no shedding, don't beg. Stay out of the kitchen. They wait in the living room while your eating in the kitchen..... smartest dog one can have. (well, a Border Collie is pretty smart) I gave up on the labs (my old bird dogs) due to there stupidity/drooling/ etc... I'll stick with a breed you can talk to like a human and they understand what you mean... lol. There smarter than most people. Sorry for getting off subject, I just love my boys!!!

my Mom went to her friends house, and she knew the lady loved her cats as well as you love your dogs, and she knew the cats were trained somehow.

when they got done eating, my mom offered to clean the table off, the lady said no, the lady said a command, and the cats jumped right up, and started eating everything on the table

i don't care what my dogs eat so much, they like Beef Jerky as a treat better than ANYTHING. our 9 yo dog will actually drool & drip saliva, she loves it so much. she never drools otherwise.

i love dogs, and they are great, but the things they lick & sniff, i don't want associated with my dinner plate. my soap ain't that strong.

Yeah, one day I wasn't paying attention. I was in the middle of the road with my head down doing my business. All the sudden this car came rushing by.

I hate to say this, I really do. But a lot of people have had their mouth in places a dog wouldn't even sniff. And toothpaste doesn't remove most of the 'bad' stuff that would worry you. I cringe every time I go to a restaurant and think of all the people that have eaten off the same plate I'm using, or have had the same silverware in their mouth that is now in mine. I think we've all, at one time or another, had a restaurant spoon or fork in our mouth and felt a 'lump' or something that just wasn't right. Upon inspection we find that the lump is an old dried piece of food that didn't get washed off completely. Or IS it food? We'll never know, but I'll stick with dog drool thank you. I KNOW where his mouth has been!

mental note: take your own plate if you go eat at their house.
Do they not wash the plates after the dog is done? I don't see what's upsetting about letting the dog lick the plate (down on the floor) provided that it's not the only stage of the dishwashing process. I think you're the one with the problem here.

But then again, one of my dog's nicknames was "Primary Rinse."

Not only do they like their own butts, but they wash their underside and any other dogs butt or under side. Gives me a good enough reason not to let them eat off my plate!

Mine normally eat dry dog food, sometimes I will cook up some lean beef, deer, or ground turkey mixed with rice and give it to them. That only happens when I am out of dry food. Mine also like raw veggies that fall from the counter when I am cooking.

Kailey was never in a position to need to drink from the toilet. She occasionally gets food off the dish, but normally in her bowl. When she does get leftovers, it's AFTER everybody is done and in another room. She knows there are no rewards for begging. If I'm eating in the car, she learned thast if she is looking away, or out the window, something MIGHT land in front of her. Accasionally I'll see her checking out of the corner of her eye and correct her.

Ya, thats what I mean by craps and table fare. My boys like posted earlier, don't eat off the plates. We scrape the scraps in thier bowls. The scraps they do eat are watched pretty good though. In our house, its always deer, elk, ducks, geese or phesants. Those can't be too bad for them. Whats wierd about it is, once we put a few morsals in thier bowl, it triggers our Heelers to eat thier entire bowl of Science Diet. I don't know why they do that. Anytime I put a piece of food in thier bowl, they will eat it and the rest of their kibbles, even it the bowl is full. Also, is there anyone else out there whos dogs will grab a mouth full of kibbles and walk into the living room and dump thier mouth full on the carpet, then eat each kibble one at a time??????????

Boomer does the same, he'll watch you with a close eye just in case I drop something. But he know he won't get anything from my plate. One thing he loves is fries, he'll search the floor of the truck for old fries if any are there. He also will eat any freshly dropped ones too. The only time he gets his own order of fries is on vet visit day. If he's a good boy we'll stop at wendys and get two orders of fries for him and I. It keeps him excited about going to the vet, I have noticed if i don't stop at wendys after the vet he will start whining and nudging my arm. Funny how they remember certian things eventhough they don't happen everyday and only a few times a year.

Two farmers leaning on the fence shooting the breeze, one of them mentions how beautiful the other Farmers dog looks. Shiny coat, strong healthy stance and full of energy, he wants to know what he feeds it?

The Farmer replies that he feeds it nothing but Turnip Greens

"Turnip Greens" asks the first Farmer Wow that's incredible...my dog would never eat Turnip greens.

To which the second Farmer replies, "this one wouldn't either for the first two weeks!

Mine does the same. One piece of beef, deer or turkey and that whole bowl is gone. Mine also will grab a mouth full of food, bring it to where ever I am, spit it on the floor and then eat it,but if I am in the kitchen then he'll eat out of his bowl.

Raw bones are OK for dogs to eat. Cooked bones are not because cooked bones splinter and can tear a dog's intestines up. My snakes just swallow rats whole, never cared much for table food, Ive tried (not even chicken!).

My wife and I eat in the living room cause we dont have kids so theres no use in getting the table set. I always get a kick out our German Schmalimute cause she will sit by the front entry way and look at my wife the whole time she's eating but she don't whine. And when I order her to the back room she turns on her ninja dog skills and sneaks into the living room without a sound even on the laminate flooring where she thinks we can't see her, apperently she doesn't know how long her nose is. But I can't help give her food when she looks at me with those big brown eyes.

You have a good point there. I go to a restaurant and see how scraped up the fork is, then I think about how every scratch on that fork was probably caused by a different tooth, or a drop on the floor.
