do you feel "less Manly" in a 4x2 than a 4x4?
I'd rather be caught wearing a skirt than driving a 2 wheel drive truck
Personally I need the 4x4 but I am just kidding. My first truck was an 1985 Dodge 250 4x2. I put about 750 lbs. of sand in the back and had some knarly tires on the back. I could get out of a muddy construction site that swallowed my buddies 4x4 Suburban. I can't picture not having a 4x4 now. I was just talking to a buddy about the vanity factor and how we could probably get by with a lot less truck, or drive the majority of the time in a little Toyota Corrolla... I guess that is where we get vanity being one of the 7 deadly sins. It sure is expensive!Hondo

MadHat came up for supper last nite, and we took turns driving each others,
my stock 4x2 feels like a limo ride compared to his straight piped 35's with 4:10's....
I guess 2wd isnt so bad if you're married.. That way youve already lost half your manhood and it shouldn't hurt so bad...
Everyone likes something different.. id only get a 2wd if i had a 5th wheel to pull. That would sit in the driveway when not pulling though.

i would say if anything makes me feel less manly, it would be the fact that i dont even own a truck.
4x4, 2x4, gas, diesel, crew cab, reg cab....... none of that would change how manly i feel. i would feel just as manly in a gas crew cab 2x4 3/4 ton chevy as i would in a CTD 4x4 dodge. its not the 2wd or 4wd or gas or diesel thing that does it for me, it is the 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton. i might feel a little less manly in a 1/2 ton versus a 3/4 ton, but that is just because i like the bigger trucks.

I would only feel less manly if my farm truck was also my hauler and I got it stuck near the loading chute because it was only 2wd and my buddy had to come pull my Dodge out with his Ford.
If I lived in and was from San Diego and was going to be out here for the rest of my life and had say a boat or RV or toy hauler to pull, I would have gotten a 2wd, but when you live ANYWHERE that it snows or gets muddy, you just need a 4x4.

The 'new' truck I have now is the first 2wd I've ever owned, but it IS somewhat bigger than a pickup, (International 4900). First truck I've ever owned with air conditioning too! I haven't had the occasion with this new truck yet to need 4wd, but I already kinda miss it. I guess it just gave me a feeling of security knowing it was there if I needed it. I will say however, that this bigger truck rides better than my old one ton did!
chaikwa.
I couldn't make it up my driveway at home and wouldn't be able to get to camp during the winter months with a 2 wheel drive truck. I made the mistake of buying one once, traded it in 5 months later, got tied of walking up the driveway while the wife's Volvo made it up all winter.
I do think you are on to something about feeling manly. I have noticed more than a few 4X2's with lifts and mud tires all the way around. They must have felt less of a man???

drove both 4x2 and 4x4 before I bought mine and my girlfirend told me the 4x4 looked better and by the way the truck is less than 2 months old we have had to use the 4x4 4 times so it already is paying dividends and darn the truck looks great
I specifically avoided 4x4 when I was looking for my truck; I wanted a light, simple, low, fast and cheap truck and I got a lighter, simpleer, lower, potentially fast and relatively cheap truck...
I don't want extra pieces; I never leave the highway. Altough limited slip would be really nice...

I've always had 2wd trucks and avoided 4wd because of front-end issues... only reason I bought this one was because the previous owner had gone through the front end recently. I've put just over 15k on it. hopefully I'll be able to put another 20-30k before I gotta get into it again
The only time I ever felt "less manly" was when I was hooking the chain to the front tow hooks on the 95. But you drive a 2wd diesel for a while you know where you can and can't go...but the learning experience is embarrassing

I went the other way...from 4x2 to 4x4. Nice change
