do you feel "less Manly" in a 4x2 than a 4x4?
I don't really need four wheel drive where I am now. I'm in the Navy and live in Va. Beach. But when I go home on leave to the farm in KY I definetly need it. These trucks don't go very well in 2wd in the Kentucky mud or wet grass for that matter without a ton of weight in the bed.
looked at a 2005 3/4 ton CTD short box, extend cab, 2x drive. before buying my 97 4x long box. reminded me of driving a car, 2005 CTD was so civilized
Soooo glad I ended with a 97 12v 4x long box!!!!

I am happy with my 2wd-Especially when I realize I get at least 10% better fuel economy - saving $3000 thus far in the life of the truck. I paid 2k less for it, only replaced one outer tie rod -$70.00 vs thousands of dollars in repairs if it was a 4wd, better road feel, better ride, better turning radius, easier to get into etc. I haven't even put a U joint in this truck yet. 320k and 4 years old. I shudder to think how much in downtime and repairs I'd have with a 4wd. What are guys getting here with 4x4 ball joints 60-80k? Track bars? Death wobble? Tire wear? U joints? Resale? I didn't buy my truck to get xxx more on resale because it is a 4wd. 2wd or 4wd won't be worth a hellova lot with 600k on the clock.
I could care less what others think about me or my truck. I bought what works for me. To say that a 4wd is more manly than a 2wd-the OP may have some sexual issues.........

Love my 2wd and since I never go off road no need for 4wd. I feel plenty manly even without 4wd since all my 1/2 ton gasser buddies are always screaming "Turn that thing off I can't hear"
With the weather lately and last years very small snow I haven't had any issues in the snow yet, but then again I do load it up with about 8-10 cinder blocks.

ah, he brought up some good points.
i have a 2wd, MadHat has a 4x4, son in law has a 4x4,
my buddy has a 2wd
we all talk about what ramtuff said, but none of us has any failures yet of drive line stuff. (all below 100k, too)
and we are always talking about it, really, there's no right answer.
just drive what you want.
and don't let the wife name it GEORGE....
she liked the 4x4 ride height and "feeling of safety & security" being able to see traffic flow.
i like MPG and quiet of this new truck

I have a 4wd,but my Dad has a 2wd,I drive his frequently,and let me tell you,if I didnt need 4wd,I'd have a 2wd in a heartbeat,handling is so much better,steering is spot on,road feel,what a difference.My 4x4 feels numb to input while the 2wd feels like a corvette.Oh yeah,his 3.55 3500 quad cab 2wd gets 4-5 mpg better than my 4wd 2500 4.10 quad shortbed.

At least you didn't call it a 1/2 ton chebby!
No it can't be no REAL truck would be anything less than a 4X4
