Deer Hunting Anyone?

Any deer hunters out there? I used to hunt all the time, but my hunting buddies moved so I gave it up for 10 years. My son in law is all hot to trot so it's back in the field this year chasing Mr. Whitetail. Got to admit it is getting my blood going looking for good places to put up the ol tree stands. Maybe this could be the start of a long term tradition.

Any good deer hunting stories?

We are almost ready. My family owns a 160 acre farm in the Saline river bottoms, and no one lives there anymore. Got firewood cut, stands up, and ready to move camper in next week. I'ts only 6 miles away but me and my son like to rough it. ( we have electricity) He got his 1st deer last yr at age 13. I work alot, but I always take a vacation the first week so we can hunt and have some father/son time. PLUS, we just like the taste of Bambi.

Used to hunt all the time, muleys, whitetails, elk, moose, ...all that stuff.

Good hunting in Ky where I live now but haven't hunted in about 10 years. Got out of the habit when I crushed 3 vertabrae in my neck. Guns hurt too much and the bow was impossible to pull.

I'm mostly ok now, so you got me thinking.

Edit: does the wife smacking two deer and one cow this year count?

I do both seasons, our bow season starts in september and runs thru to the end of october, then rifle kicks in for the month. We also have bow zones around calgary and edmonton that run for the whole 3 months. I was out yesterday in the morning and didn't see anything, the cattle were just pulled out the area last week so the deer haven't moved back in yet. Plus the weather has been too nice to push them down out of the hills.

I look forward to hunting season every year. I got a nice four point blacktail this year on opening day. I will be leaving this Friday to go Elk hunting, can't wait. Here's a pic of my blacktail deer.

Only been twice. My pop was/is a bird hunter. We never did deer. This will be my second season of deer. Trying to learn. I like it, but have little time to hunt. Scouted yesterday. Found the deer. Just got to get out there. Hope to over the next 2 weeks. THis weekend and next are either sex. Hope it works out so I don't have to use up the doe tags. - JKE

its unseasonably warm where i hunt so i havent seen many deer yet. 3 more weeks til the week of deer camp tho. bowhunting is fun but i love the week in the mountains with the good ole boys.

im a bit upset tho. got a call from a nearby resident of our deer camp in west virginia, and he said the DNR found chronic wasting disease in the deer in our area only...and came in to do testing. They shot 230 deer last month in our county...and they took out 5-6 BIG bucks in our immediate area. which means hunting this year will be terrible for us as the big bucks i scouted all summer are most likely the ones they shot. I had 2 10's and a BIIIIIG 8 coming to my food plot all summer and now i bet I won't see hide nor hair of them come time to shoot 'em.

hunting

was a big deer hunter when i lived closer to the city. now that i live "in the woods" now, they are like pets. i see them all day long a.m., p.m., and everything inbetween. they lay down in my yard. i don't bait them they just come in the yard to hang out.

i would find it difficult to find myself taking anymore deer. i was an avid gun, muzzleloader and bow hunter for a long time. things change for me.

Been a hunter for aout 45 years, now living in the CO mountains and the deer are our pets, and we prefer Elk for the eating anyhow. Get to hunt em on a buffalo ranch and get one every year. More work than deer, but it is great hunting with a younger bro and a long time friend, plus we count on the meat along with Sockeye Salmon and Halibut from annual trip to AK. Did my first Antelope "hunt" this year......a little bit more like going out to the curb to pick up the morning paper, but the meat is excellent. Just got to be careful to not get em excited before ya drop em, or you will be tasting adrenilen. Actually, just bought my first muzzleloader and drew a license this year, but blew it off in favor of taking the wife and pups on a wonderful trip thru Canada to Portland. Just too many good things to do and not enuff time. Such is life.
