I'll go with Dodge but if they let go of the Cummins then I would have to re-evaluate. I hope Dodge doesn’t make that mistake. Nothing else would look right under the hood.

One thing to keep in mind is that a large portion of this site hasn't experienced owning a 3rd Gen yet.

I know I haven't. But I'm told the build quality is infinitely better than 1st-2nd Gen. I can only base my opinion off of what I own, which is a 2nd Gen.

Dodge needs to continue this trend of better build quality for a long time and they just might turn these numbers around. But as of right now, 1st-2nd Gen is still fresh in everyone's mind. Not to say they were poor quality trucks... far from it... I just say Ford had better quality [trucks] back then.

Some things about the Ford I really like. I do not like driving them and do not like the ride. My 3rd gen drives and rides much better than any Ford. I do not like the huge crew cab - - prefer the Dodge 4 door.

I would have to say I would opt for the Dodge at this time. Love the looks of the dually much better than Ford. Again, maybe it is the long crew I don't like. My 3rd gen sure drives a lot better than my 2nd gen. I was seriously considering switching to a Chev D/A when news came out of the major revamp of the Dodge and upping the ante on the torque/HP. Sure glad I didn't do that.

Though I love my Dodge,I am also a Ford fan,and it would be hard to choose, but the 6.0 seems to be having quite a few problems right now and I am confident Ford will get it right,I would have to say in a Ford I bought today,it would have to be Cummins powered, saying that it would also be very very difficult to switch back to a Ford after having a Dodge.
now if I was in the market for a half ton,it would be a Ford.

ford has some nice stuff but the improvements to the dodge more than make up for what i can get. especially the steering i dont like to wander all over the road ill give up the extra space in the back for this. now if ford were to make improvemnets were dodge did it would be a tough choice...

I love my dodge. I love my Cummins. I hate my Dodge/Cummins fuel system. And I hate my Dodge automatic.

I never drove or rode in a 1st or 2nd Gen Dodge, but based on what I've heard I'd say you're right.

I'll say this....the ONLY reason, and I do mean the ONLY reason....I even considered getting a Dodge was because of the Cummins engine. Had I been looking for a gasser or had Dodge not been using the Cummins then I never would have never even given them a thought. Having said that, I've really enjoyed my first Dodge.....and if they keep the Cummins (or get something better) and continue to improve in quality then I'll probably own many more in the future.

As long as it's got a Cummins, I don't care whose name is on the grill.

Well for my $.02 worth. I have been a Chebby 1/2 ton truck guy all my life till I decided to bite the bullet and pick a 2nd generation HO. I used to cringe at Dodge back in the beginning and had a Ford F-150 thrust upon me for a work truck back early in the 90's. Fast foward to today.... I bought the HO for a TRUCK. I was not concerned with bells and whistles which most of my Chebbys had. I wanted pure unadulterated power and grunt. The 2nd generation I bought has NEVER let me down in that department. Dodge has finally, IMHO joined the big 3, albeit a bit later than the other 2 and is coming along nicely in the amenities department. Give DC a couple of more years (along with Cummins) and I feel you will see Dodge p on top of the totem pole rather than just toting a 28% market share, (again remember that DC was a late bloomer in the pick-up craze).

LONG LIVE THE CUMMINS AND DODGE RELATIONSHIP..... Together they will go far and prosper!!!

I bought this truck because it has a Cummins. I think the 2nd gens look like a real truck and ford copied it. I was driving GM and only left cause if was to slow for me, 2.2l sonoma 5spd and i had my sights set on my present truck. I like the fact that i have a TRUCK engine in front of me and i must say that Dodge made history by using cummins. It just blows my mind that dodge put in a medium duty, in-line six, cummins, turbo diesel, monster ment for city trucks and equipment!. I think that alone says alot about dodge.
Cant say that i care for Ford all that much, even with a cummins. Rode in a 4door 2001 and it was very nice and roomy and i enjoyed my-self, but just cant come around to liking Ford. Too many horror storys and first hand experiance with a personally driven and maintained company truck and family vehicle.
This truck is pretty close to being a perfect truck (personal opinion). Yes, it has aggrevating problems here and there, but soon to be worked out.
I love it!!!

Cummins /Dodge for me. I like the ram better than the Ford. But then again I like the 2nd gen looks better than the 3rd go figure.

If I had to make the choose right now, it would be for the Ford/Cummins option. I feel Ford has the best product right now and I like many of the options they offer. I like Dodge, but they are slipping in my opinion. There build quality is not as good as the other two brands. The truck I would buy, is made in Mexico, not like the fords and Chevy's. There trucks are nice on the inside and offer more room. In the next year Ford will be offering there super duty in the new body style, and then there would be absolutely not second thoughts. Dodge only got luck by being the first to realize what a wonderful power plant the Cummins would be in a small truck. I would love to see ford offer the Cummins option, maybe it would be enough to get Dodge to make some of the changes I think they need to make. It seems as if Dodge is relying on there loyalty of it's customers to continue the high sales figures. They know we know the benefits of a powerful reliable Cummins engine, and this is our main focus for the purchases we make. If Ford were to offer the Cummins, then Dodge could not count on that loyalty. For it lies with Cummins and not Dodge.

I would have to vote Ford/Cummins with a disclaimer. I haven't had any seat time in the 3rd Gen Dodge. I really like the exterior look of the 3rd Gen. The interior and tranny on the current SuperDuty is pretty nice, especially in leather. Hopefully, the interior of the new Dodge is as nice as the exterior.

Toss up between ford/dodge with a cummins.
Traded in the 1994 ford f350 crew cab dually for a 2003 dodge 350 quad cab dually. Both trucks 2 wheel drive, manual transmission. No way I was going to go with an aluminum block/heads gm. Was then deciding between a power stroke 6.0 or a cummins. For sure the cummins seemed like the right choice. Especially after one ford salesman told me he wouldn't sell me a diesel due to the problems at that time. Ford had what I thought was nicer seats and the option of a sunroof. The ride in my dodge is rougher than the old ford. New dodge gets way better fuel mileage than the ford ever got. Ford seemed fine no major problems till I found part of the frame cracked seemed like a good time to trade. Guess I will have to see what problems I have with the dodge in about 10 years and 213,000 miles, then can let ya know. The new frame on the dodge seems alot stiffer. I had alot of flexing between the cab and bed of the ford I don't have with the dodge. Noticed this difference with the 1st load of campfire wood I picked up at the amish lumber mill. I thought the dodge ho with 555 pounds of torque was going to show more difference in power than it did compared to the old ford. I was a little dissapointed there. But then I have been happy with the added fuel mileage. Still a toss up in my mind
